Instead of starting from scratch, you can transfer info to and from QuickBooks. This makes it easy if you need to convert, upgrade, or create a new company file.
Import and export overview
You can import things like your bank transactions, accountant’s changes, general journal entries, and batch transactions. You can also import your customers and vendors.
You can export reports, general journal entries, and customer and vendor lists.

Things to keep in mind when you import and export data
Since you can't undo info you import, you should make a backup just in case.
We provide support for basic import and export questions. Consider talking to your accountant before you import data. Or, we can help you find an accountant if you need one.
It is the most common and recommended data transfer from one QuickBooks Desktop to another. To use this feature, you need to: Navigate to File > Backup Company > Create Local Backup or File > Open or Restore Company > Restore a Backup Copy in QuickBooks Desktop.
Here are the steps to upload CSV files and import your transactions into QuickBooks. Navigate to the Profile ⚙ icon and select Imports.Select Import transactions.Follow the onscreen steps to upload the CSV file.
Go to Transactions, then select Bank transactions (Take me there). Select the blue tile for the account you want to upload the transactions into. Select the Link account▼ dropdown, then select Upload from file. Note: If your account is not connected yet to online banking, select Upload from file.
Open QuickBooks on the new computer and go to "File" > "Open or Restore Company." Choose "Restore a backup copy" and click "Next." Browse to the location where you copied the backup file and select it. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the restoration process.
From the QuickBooks File menu, select Utilities > Export > Lists to IIF Files. Select the list you want to export and click OK. Browse the location where you want to save your file and click Save.
Go to Reports (Take me there). Search for and select the report you want to export. At the top of the report, select the Export icon. Then select Export to Excel.
The most common Quickbooks file extension is QBW (company file), followed by QBB (backup file) and QuickBooks Online (bank statement file). File formats also differ depending on your operating system and the version of QuickBooks being used.
