The first phase of the IIT placement season ended recently with over 160 students bagging packages of at least Rs 160 crore.

The IITs ended the first phase of their placement season last week and over 160 students have bagged job offers of at least Rs 1 crore each. The battle for top tech talent continued and as the Covid-19 pandemic was showing signs of easing, the 2021 IIT placements ended up being one of the most successful ever.

The top eight IITs in India saw more than 9000 job offers and the average salary, especially at the older IIT campuses, saw a hike of around 15% to 35%. This translated to many more IIT students seeing packages of Rs 1 crore than ever before.

The total number of job offers received in the top IITs have gone up compared to even the pre-pandemic times.

Recruiters came primarily from core engineering sectors, followed by the IT sector, analytics and consulting.

New-age domains such as AI, big data, machine learning, robotics, cloud computing, design development for high-volume manufacturing are making their presence felt among the recruiters too.

The average salary witnessed in the IIT placements was around Rs 25 to 28 lakhs.
