We are travel lovers. We have been to 11 countries, currently trying to visit all of the National Parks and cross a ton more off our bucket lists. I love traveling as a family and seeing the world through my kid’s eyes. When I think of the American Dream, it is a lot different than it used to be. Sure the white picket fence is still a nice thought while playing in the front yard with the kids. But to me the dream which isn’t just something Americans want is to travel! Of course not everyone wants to travel but you must be intrigued if you are here! I am so excited to share with you how to travel and make money! It is the best. Traveling as a family of 4 can be expensive so it is extra nice to be able to make money while we travel.
There are a lot of ways to travel and make money and I am excited to share some of the best I have done and have heard of others doing.
How to Travel and Make Money
Rent Things
While it might be a little tricky to coordinate. You can rent things you own. And a lot of it can be done while you are off traveling. Such as renting your bike, home, car etc while you are off traveling and not using it. Or maybe you could house swap like in the movie The Holiday- might be far fetched but fun!
Sell Stock Photos
While you are off traveling you are of course taking pretty photos. Might as well sell those instead of just post them on your Instagram. There are a lot of sites that buy stock photos. Some of the popular ones are Getty Images, Alamy, iStock Photo etc. Might as well check it out! You can also sell stock videos and I have heard that is a little less competitive.
Be a Travel Affiliate
The main way that I make money while we travel is being an affiliate for a wholesale travel site. It really is the best gig ever! So not only do I get access to amazing wholesale travel deals. But I get free buddy passes to share with friends, family, followers etc to try out the site for themselves for free for SIX MONTHS. When they travel with wholesale travel prices I make money. I have been doing this for 18 months and even get free travel! As a member of the site, everyone gets a free trip EVERY YEAR! All you have to do is pay the tax.
The site is set up like Expedia, Priceline etc but cheaper! Think of it like the Costco of travel. So Expedia and those other deal sites get access to the same deals. But their business model is to mark up travel and that is how they make money. With the travel club no travel is marked up and money is made by a small membership instead.
While you travel you also get 1-3% back to travel on again in something called reward credits to use on the already wholesale prices. It is amazing to be able to share with others and help us all be able to travel more. That to me is happiness and I love sharing it with others. So easy and fun to share! Especially when your friends will ask you how you are able to travel it makes it really natural.
Publish and Ebook or Course
I am currently working on a course and an ebook. Both are amazing ways to have streams of passive income. Do the work once and it is done. Of course there can be a technical issue or customer service here or there but not bad! Think of what you are a pro at and go for it!
Start a Blog
I have been blogging for 4 years. I have done sponsored posts and all that. But the last 6 months or so I have really been focusing on blog content. It has made a huge difference! It is nice to not have to worry about landing sponsored posts. Instead I can post about whatever I want and when I want! I make most of my money of ads on my site and affiliate links. So many companies have affiliate programs. So if it is something you love- check out or ask if they have a program. The main affiliate I make money for is Amazon. It is so nice to be able to post about whatever I want and busy anyway.
If you are wanting to start a blog go for it! It is not too late- trust me! Things can go fast with consistency. I really recommend using Bluehost to be your hosting. I have used them for 4 years and never had any problems. Choose a domain and then use Bluehost for your hosting and get going! I recommend using WordPress since it is so user friendly and works with so many plug ins. It doesn’t have to be perfect- just start. Blogging is so popular for making money while traveling for good reason. It can be done anywhere in the world!
Teach English Online
I have a lot of friends that do this. Some have great success with it. But usually the hours are hard and really early in the morning if based in the U.S. I have also heard there is a lot of competition now so it is harder to get a full schedule. But worth looking into if it interests you!
Work on the Go – GrubHub, DoorDash etc
This one is a little funky and creative. I saw someone online doing this and it is kind of genius. This guy goes on vacation and works one day and then plays the next with the money that he made. So of course this is hard to do traveling with an actual job as in not online. What he does is food delivery such as GrubHub, DoorDash etc. He was doing it in large cities and making around $200 a day. It would be hard to do with kids and a family but if you like to solo travel it could totally work and I love the creativity!

Freelancing, Consulting, Marketing, Graphic Design
In the past I have done social media and marketing for small businesses. It was nice to be able to do it on the go as we traveled. It is also amazing that with the power of the internet you can have clients all over the world. There are so many related jobs that I have listed that can work online. Online Stocks
Over the past few years my husband has been doing this. It is so really easy to invest in stocks on your phone. Of course the riskier the investment you can sometimes get an amazing return. It is a good way to save money. You can have it auto-withdraw a small amount of money regularly. Then you have that money set aside to purchase stocks with.
Use this link and get your first stock for free! It is fun because it is a surprise stock. It can be a fun brand like Facebook, Ford, Apple etc try it out! We love this app and my husband buys and sells all the time to make money while we are home and traveling.
Get a Holiday Visa
If you love a certain country or want to try living in another country. Then get a holiday work visa and give it a shot! Work at a hotel, coffee shop, restaurant etc. Sometimes I wish I would have done something like this while I was single. Or gone and lived somewhere to be a nanny.
Other ways How to Travel and Make Money
I tried to think mostly of things to you can do online and are realistic to do as you are traveling. If you are willing to stay somewhere for an extended period then there are a lot more options. Some of these include cutting hair at hostels then traveling with that money. Working on a cruise ship. Work on a yacht. Entertainment and performing jobs.
