JetBlue Airways, based primarily out of the northeast United States, offers flights to over 100 cities in 25 countries. Founded in 2000, it’s now the country’s sixth largest airline and it consistently receives high praise for its customer service and Mint and Mint Studio business class seats.

JetBlue’s loyalty program, TrueBlue, allows members to earn points redeemed for award flights on JetBlue or Hawaiian Airlines, plus bookings through JetBlue Vacations. If you have amassed a cache, here are some of the best ways to redeem JetBlue points.

Book an award trip on JetBlue

For most TrueBlue members, the easiest redemption option is for award travel on JetBlue. The airline makes this process as simple as searching for a flight on its website. To find out how many points a particular flight will cost, select “Use TrueBlue points” when searching for flights on jetblue.com.

Your flight results will then display prices in TrueBlue points instead of dollars.

How to Redeem JetBlue Points - NerdWallet (2)

Like many other U.S. airlines, JetBlue prices its award tickets dynamically, meaning that the ticket’s price in points will adjust when the cost in dollars moves up or down. You can compare prices in points and dollars by clicking “Dollars” or “Points” at the top of your search results.

Although JetBlue partners with several airlines and offers bookings on select partner flights through its website, TrueBlue points cannot currently be redeemed for flights on partner airlines through its website. JetBlue also does not allow Blue Basic fares to be booked with points.

🤓Nerdy Tip

If you are purchasing a flight with TrueBlue points, check the same flight’s price in dollars and verify how much value you are getting against NerdWallet’s valuation of True Blue points, which currently stands at 1.5 cents per point.

If your travel dates are flexible, you can use the JetBlue Best Fare Finder to view the best award price available on your selected route in calendar format through the end of JetBlue’s schedule.

Book an award trip on JetBlue using Cash + Points

Even if you don’t have enough TrueBlue points to pay for your entire flight, JetBlue offers an option to pay for part of your travels with both cash and points.

To use Cash + Points, log into your JetBlue account and search for a flight by selecting “Use TrueBlue Points.” Initially, you will see the number of points required to pay for 100% of the flight with points. To see Cash + Points options, select a specific flight and fare. If you have more than 500 TrueBlue points in your account, the website will display a slider that allows you to choose which portion of your flight to pay with points and which to pay with cash. You must have a minimum of 500 TrueBlue points to use a Cash + Points redemption.

TrueBlue Cash + Points awards are not available for Blue Basic fares.

Book an award trip on Hawaiian Airlines

TrueBlue points can also be redeemed for flights on Hawaiian Airlines to any of its 30 destinations across eight countries. JetBlue prices award tickets on Hawaiian using an award chart, meaning that it charges a fixed number of points based on the class of service and the trip’s origin and destination. Award tickets start at 6,000 TrueBlue points for an economy ticket within Hawaii. JetBlue states that award tickets are available on all Hawaiian Airlines flights, but that award availability may be limited.

To redeem your TrueBlue points for flights on Hawaiian Airlines, you must contact JetBlue to make your reservation; reservations cannot currently be made online.

JetBlue Vacations

In addition to flights, you can book a flight and hotel package through JetBlue Vacations and use your points to pay for part of the trip. Of course, you won’t be able to redeem points to pay for the entire cost of your bundled trip, but using points can still provide a substantial discount on the cash price of your vacation. Note that points may not be redeemed for a flight and cruise package.

To use points for a JetBlue Vacation package, select “Use TrueBlue Points” when searching for your itinerary on the JetBlue vacation website.

How to Redeem JetBlue Points - NerdWallet (6)

Lamentably, JetBlue Vacations does not allow you to easily toggle between displaying prices in dollars or dollars and points. So if you want to weigh a JetBlue Vacations cash and points option against booking the same itinerary using cash, you must search for your vacation package again without checking “Use TrueBlue Points.”

How to use JetBlue credit

If you want to redeem JetBlue credit, instead of JetBlue TrueBlue points, you should be aware of some of the fine print. Youcanuse travel credit for:

  • Airfare and taxes on JetBlue-operated flights.

  • The air portion of a JetBlue Vacations package.

  • Change or cancellation fees, and any applicable increase in airfare for changes.

You cannot use JetBlue credit to cover ancillary fees, like checked bags or Even More Space seats, bookings on partner airlines or third-party travel booking websites. You also cannot use JetBlue credit on bookings made with TrueBlue points.

To use your JetBlue credit, you can search for a flight as normal and then select JetBlue travel credits when you get to the payment screen. You will need to login to your JetBlue TrueBlue account or JetBlue Travel Bank to access the funds.
