How To Monetize Your Blog With An Ad Network?

You will first need to fill out an application with that ad network to be accepted into their program. When they are done reviewing your application, they will email you back to inform you if you have been accepted into their program.

Applying for your first ad network can be a little intimidating when you don’t know what to expect. For the most part, the application process is easy. It might take some time before your application is accepted but don’t worry. Sometime it can take a week to three months for an ad network to contact you back when they are done with your application. Some of them will give you a link to check on the status of your application.

Why would you want to use ad networks to monetize your blog?

There are advantages to using ad networks on your blog. It is by far the easy way to earn passive income on your website. The more traffic you have, the more you will earn from the ad network. It is as simple as that.

I know when you are first starting out, you don’t have a lot of traffic coming into your blog, but it will grow over time I promise you. You just have to stick with it in the beginning. Blogging is a marathon, the longer you stay the more rewards you will see.

Before you can apply to any ad network for your website you have to be at least 18 years or old because of the tax laws. I know that is a real bummer for the underage blogging crowd. However, no matter what, you are required to pay taxes on what you earn.

Even when you make money online with an ad network they are going to require you to fill out your tax information or they will not accept your application. I would rather be upfront with you on that than let you get caught off guard. No one wants a tax problem!

How to find an ad network to monetize your blog?

There are so many ad networks out for bloggers but they don’t pay you very well. Trying to find the right ad network to monetize your blog can be hard. That is why I select the top 5 ad networks for bloggers that I know and trust.

I would not recommend an ad network, that I wouldn’t use myself. I think you should know about these ad networks and the requirements you should know before applying. I have also added a Pros and Cons Table to each review so you can see the big picture with the ad networks.

Ad Networks that don’t have a Monthly Pageview requirement

  • Media.net

  • Google AdSense

  • Ezoic

Media.net Ad Network

You can only use the Media.net ad network if you have website visitors from the USA, Canada, and the UK. Your website content has to be mainly in the English language. Otherwise, it will be difficult for you to monetize your blog using this ad network.

Make sure to check your Google Analytics before applying to this network. You will want to make sure you are going to make the most money from this ad network from your visitors. Your the one putting in the effort to create awesome content for your posts, get paid for it!

Media.net is part of Yahoo’s and Bing’s ad network and the pay is better than Google AdSense. I can’t say the same for other ad networks because Mediavine and Monumetric will pay you more. At least does not have a minimum page view requirement at this time. I would suggest taking a look at their Program Guidelines to see if they are the right fit for you.

How To Make Money With Your Blog Using An Ad Network (3)

The Media.net payout is based on the Net 30 model but what does that actually mean? I am happy you asked! You will start to receive your payment after you reach the minimum $100 mark.

There will be a 30 days delay in receiving your payment. For example, if you reach your $100 minimum in May, you will expect to see your payment in June. I didn’t want you to be surprised by the delay in you getting paid.

So when you get approved for Media.net you will get your first payment for your ad earnings 1 month later, after reaching the $100 minimum. I know that is a little slow in the beginning but after that, you will start to see monthly payout after that. Other ad networks are known to make you wait 60 days.

Media.net Pros and Cons

ProsCons
  • Beginner blogger friendly
  • No minimum monthly pageview requirements
  • Pays out is more than AdSense
  • They payout based on Net 30 model
  • They use Payoneer, and wire transfer to make payment to you
  • They help optimize your site so you have higher earnings
  • Good tech support
  • They have contextual ads to work with your niche
  • Access to Google’s Exchange Bidding (EBDA)
  • Prebid Adapter with minimal effort
  • They only accept sites with viewers from USA, UK, and Canada
  • Pays out is not as good as Mediavine and Monumetric
  • Your account has to reach a minimum of $100 before a payout is made to you.

Google AdSense Network

A Google Adsense account is one of the easiest ad networks to apply to. All you would need is a Google Account, your phone number, your postal address, and connect your website to AdSense. It is really that easy to monetize your blog with this ad network, especially for new bloggers! Earn money with this ad network can be slow in the beginning but it will grow over time along with your traffic.

Google uses the Pay Per View (PPV) and Pay Per Click (PPC) models in their ad network. In the big picture, you will make more money with the PPV versus the PPC model that is the truth of the matter. Oh, by the way, you will not be able to control which ad model will be placed on your blog. Google will run that all that part for you in the background.

Google AdSense makes it easy for you to get paid by providing 6 easy method for you to choose from.

  • Check

  • Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)

  • EFT via Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA)

  • Rapida

  • Western Union Quick Cash

  • Wire Transfer

How To Make Money With Your Blog Using An Ad Network (4)

The Google AdSense payout is very similar to the Net 30 model with some variations. You will start to receive your payment after you reach the minimum threshold mark for the country you live in. Once you reach that threshold amount you will be paid by the end of the following month.

For example, if you reach your $100 minimum threshold in May, you will expect to see your payment in June.

They will only send you a payment when you reach the qualifying threshold payment amount. So, you will never see a payment that is below the minimum requirement for you to get paid. You can always raise your minimum threshold payment to a higher amount before you receive a payout from Google AdSense.

However, you can not make it lower than the preset set minimum. Below is the required preset minimum threshold amount from Google AdSense per currency type. I found this information on Google AdSense website but it took a little bit of digging to find it!

To get a Google AdSense account, it is important to follow the Webmaster Guidelines. They use these guidelines to make sure your website meets their quality standard before they will accept your application for an AdSense account. Don’t worry their Webmaster Guidelines are easy to follow and they are the industry standard when it comes to applying to other ad networks.

If your AdSense application is ever denied it is because of the Webmaster Guidelines. Fix whatever the errors are on your website and you can re-apply again in 3 months.

I go into more detail about Google’s requirements in these posts.

Google AdSense Pros and Cons

ProsCons
  • Beginner blogger friendly
  • No minimum monthly pageview requirements
  • Being in good standing with Google helps you get into Mediavine later
  • They use check, Electronic Funds Transfer, Rapida, EFT via SEPA, wire transfer, and Western Union to make payment to you
  • Similar Net 30 payment model
  • Pay Per View (PPV) model
  • Their payout is the lowest out there
  • Their ads have a tendency to slow down your site
  • Pay Per Click (PPC) model
  • PayPal is not a payment option

Ezoic Ad Network

Other than Google Adsense, Ezoic is one of the most popular ad networks. They are part of the Google Certified Publisher Partner (GCPP) group. That means Ezoic uses the same ad inventory as AdSense, so they will have plenty of ads that fit into your niche. Plus, you will love the tools and dashboard to track your earn progress on your blog.

Some of the reasons why bloggers like Ezoic more over AdSense is because they help you optimize your site, instead of slowing it down like Adsense. Ezoic does strategic ad placement on your blog to help with boosting your money earn potential. Also, you will make more on Ezoic, than AdSense because the goal is to boost monetize your blog’s traffic.

Starting in the middle of 2021, Ezoic removed the 10,000 page view per month requirement. This is great new because it helps remove that hurdle that was holding back so many new bloggers. Sometime it can take a new blog over a year to reach 10,000 page view a month.

Ezoic payout is based on the Net 30 model just like media.net. You will receive your payment after the end of every month, but there will be a 30 days delay. So when you finally get approved for Ezoic you will get your first payment for your ad earnings 1 month later. I know that can feel a little slow in the beginning but after that, you will start to see a monthly payout.

Ready to apply to join Ezoic you can apply here!

Ezoic Pros and Cons

ProsCons
  • Beginner blogger friendly
  • Pays out more than AdSense
  • They payout based on Net 30 model
  • They don’t slow your blog down like AdSense
  • They use check, direct deposit, PayPal, and Payoneer to make payment to you
  • They help optimize your site so you have higher earnings
  • Good tech support
  • They have a great ad collection to work with your niche
  • Excellent weekly live and recorded training
  • It can take up to 12 weeks to reach your earning peak

Ad Networks that have a Monthly Pageview requirement

  • Monumetric

  • Mediavine

Monumetric Ad Network

You might know Monumetric from their previous name “Blogger Network”. They are very similar to Mediavine but their pageview requirement is lower to join. I like that they pay you on the Pay Per View (PPV) model which is far more rewarding than the Pay Per Click (PPC) model.

They have four different program levels based off of your monthly pageviews. I have listed the here below.

  • Ascend: 80,000 to 500,000 monthly pageviews

  • Startos: 500,000 to 10,000,000 monthly pageviews

How To Make Money With Your Blog Using An Ad Network (9)

There is a $99 fee to join their first plan called the Propel. To date, no other ad networks I have reviewed require you to pay a fee. You can pay them with your earnings so you don’t have to pay upfront. If I had 10,000 page views per month, I would start with Ezoic first and then wait to join Monumetric once I hit the 80,000 page views mark.

You will have to use a WordPress or Blogger website platform to apply to this ad network. If you are using a different blogging platform then you will be looking at a lot of rework. So will want to consider this carefully before going with this ad network if you have to make this change. You will need to have a sidebar that is 300px wide for ad placement on your site. At least 6 spots for the ads to be placed for desktop and mobile viewing.

The payout is based on the Net 60 model, which very similar to the Ezioc Net 30 model. In the Net 60 model, you will receive your payment after the end of every month, but there will be a 60 days delay. So when you finally get approved for Monumetric you will get your first payment for your ad earnings 2 months later. I know that is slower than the Net 30 in the beginning. After that, you will start to see a monthly payout but it is from 2 months ago.

Ready to apply to join Monumetric you can apply here!

Monumetric Pros and Cons

ProsCons
  • Pays out more compared to other ad networks
  • They have high-quality ads
  • They don’t slow your blog down like AdSense
  • They use PayPal and bank transfer to make payment to you
  • They help optimize your site so you have higher earnings
  • Good tech support
  • Pay Per View (PPV) model
  • They require 10k monthly Pageviews
  • Your approval process can take up to 3 months
  • They payout based on Net 60 model
  • There is a $99 fee to join their first plan.

Mediavine Ad Network

Mediavine is the top dog in an ad network when it comes to making money on your blog. All bloggers strive to be accepted into this ad network. Instead of using monthly pageviews, they measure site by monthly sessions. This is very different than the other two ad networks I covered earlier.

So far Mediavine had the most flexible payment methods available. Here is a chart that breaks down their six different payment methods.

How To Make Money With Your Blog Using An Ad Network (11)

The payout is based on the Net 65 model, which very similar to the Monumetric Net 60 model. In the Net 65 model, you will receive your payment on the 15th of every month, but there will be a 65 days delay. So when you finally get approved for Mediavine you will get your first payment for your ad earnings 65 days later.

I know that is a very long time to wait in the beginning. However, you will start to see the monthly payout on the 15th of every month after that. Don’t worry your patience will pay off!

In June 2020 Mediavine changed their 25k monthly sessions to 50k monthly sessions. This came as a big shock to the blogging world. To be accepted into this network you have to be in good standing with Google AdSense. Why does Mediavine have this requirement? They are a member of the Google Certified Publisher Partner (GCPP) which makes them part of the Google AdExchange. That is why it is important to follow the Goggle Webmaster Guidelines.

I go into more detail about Google’s requirements in these posts.

  • They don’t slow your blog down like AdSense
  • They help optimize your site so you have higher earnings
  • Pay Per View (PPV) model Good tech support
  • They require 50k monthly sessions instead of pageview
  • If you can’t qualify for Google AdSense, then you can’t qualify for Mediavine
  • Net 65 payment model (15 every month)
