How to apply for MTN Uganda shares using MTN MOMO
What is an SCD account 
SCD is a Securities Central Depository established by law. A Securities Central Depository account is an account on which shares are maintained in the name of the shareholder. Anyone who wants to buy shares must have an SCD account because shares in a listed company cannot held in a physical share certificate. You can open up an SCD account free of charge via MTN Momo by dialling*165*65#and following the prompts or via Uganda Securities Exchange Easy Portal- https://scd.use.or.ug. Once the application is successful, you will receive a notification (via SMS) of your SCD account details.
Now that I’ve opened my SCD account, what next?
Now that you have an SCD account, you are able to buy or sell shares in any of the companies listed on the Uganda’s stock market by contacting your licenced stockbroker.
Who is a stockbroker?
A broker is a professional licensed by the Capital Markets Authority to buy and sell shares on behalf of investors. They are the only ones authorised to trade in securities on the trading floor of a licensed securities exchange. They also provide professional advice on dealing in listed securities. A list of the Authorised Selling Agents (brokers) for the MTN Uganda IPO is set out in Appendix C of the Prospectus. What is the M-IPO Platform?
The m-IPO is a digital innovation between Uganda Securities Exchange and MTN Uganda that allows investors to open a Securities Central Depository (SCD) account and subsequently apply and pay for MTN shares through MTN’s Mobile Money platform.
How do I open an SCD account on the MTN Mobile money platform?
You can open an SCD accountfor freeon the MoMo platform, by following the steps below:
- dial*165*65#or open theMyMTN Appon a mobile phone device;
- select the option to create an SCD Account and enter a valid National Identification Number (NIN);
- select a broker/dealer;
- review and accept terms and conditions; and
- consent to the creation of the SCD Account by submitting your MTN Mobile Money personal identification number (PIN).
Shortly after completion of the above detailed process, a unique application identification number will be generated, and upon validation, an SCD Account will be created, and associated details communicated to you by SMS
