SCOTTSDALE, AZ —The world will celebrate International Day of Happiness on March 20, and in honor of the occasion, the personal finance website WalletHub on Tuesday released its report titled "2022's Happiest Cities in America."

In order to determine where people in the U.S. are most content with their lives, WalletHub compared more than 180 of the largest U.S. cities across 30 key indicators of happiness.

The 30 indicators include factors like: depression rate, income growth and average leisure time spent per day. They are grouped into three overarching categories:

"The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a third of Americans to be so stressed that they sometimes find it hard to make basic decisions," wrote WalletHub's Adam McCann. "Therefore, it's vital for people to boost their happiness however they can, whether through family, friends, activities, entertainment or work.

"What people might not realize is that where they live may also determine how happy they are. Location plays a hand in how bright or gloomy our days are."

Incidentally, the U.S ranked 14th in the World Happiness Report 2021, which was compiled by John F. Helliwell, Richard Layard, Jeffrey D. Sachs, Jan-Emmanuel De Neve, Lara B. Aknin and Shun Wang.

In Sept. 2021, Arizona ranked 27th in WalletHub's report "Happiest States in America."

But which is Arizona's happiest city? And where do the state's biggest cities rank in terms of happiness?

Scottsdale is the highest-ranked Arizona city on the list at No. 19, with a total score of 63.78. The city ranks No. 6 in "Community and Environment," No. 43 in "Income & Employment" and No. 50 in "Emotional & Physical Well-Being."

Scottsdale also tied with Irvine, California, for No. 5 on the list of "Highest Sports Participation- Rate."
