How do you answer apprenticeship application questions? ›

Consider explaining how the apprenticeship can provide practical work experience which will help steer you towards your career goals. Once again, it's a good idea to list your reasons for applying and do a practice run before the interview to make sure you're prepared.

This is because you are in direct competition with every other person interested in that role. The popularity of apprenticeships is growing, so getting one will be more challenging than it used to be, but that's not to say you can't beat the competition.

Example: "This apprenticeship can help me gain the experience I need to move forward in the industry. The experience I've gained so far through courses and my previous positions has prepared me for the basics in the field.

If your apprentice fails one of more components of the end-point assessment they will be offered the opportunity to take a resit or retake. National statistics for 2021/22 show that the overall achievement rate for apprenticeships fell to 53.4 per cent, a drop of 4.3 percentage points on the year before and eleven percentage points lower than pre-Covid levels in 2018/19. There were 263,550 leavers in 2021/22, which is just under 12,000 below 2020/21.

Another way of communicating your enthusiasm and seriousness is to ask the interviewer about the steps to expect next. In addition to being a useful alternative to asking whether you got the apprenticeship, it shows that you're both optimistic and enthusiastic.
