We never travel without travel insurance. It’s that important!
While we’ve never had to file a claim, we’ve met numerous travelers who weren’t so lucky. Some had motorbike injuries and others caught dengue fever. More recently, we’ve heard stories about people catching COVID while traveling in a foreign country. The unfortunate ones without travel insurance incurred unexpected expenses in addition to their pain and suffering.
We don’t want to be those people!

Types Of Heymondo Policies
We get that having an annual policy isn’t for everybody. Some people don’t travel as much as we do. Others are looking for a policy to meet visa requirements like we did in 2018 when we were applying for D7 visas for our move to Lisbon.

1. Single Trip Travel Insurance
This type of policy is suitable for one-off trips. Depending on your needs, this policy option can include the following:

- Age Limit – 69
There are three types of Single Trip travel insurance policy plans – Basic, Top and Premium. The different plans have a range of coverages and limits that you can select during the application process.

2. Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance
This type of policy makes sense for frequent travelers up to age 49. Valid for one year, it negates the need for single trip policies and can include the following:
- Medical Expenses up to $10 million USD
- Repatriation & Early Return up to $500,000 USD
- Luggage Theft & Damage up to $2,500 USD
- Trip Cancellation up to $7,000 USD
- COVID 19 Coverage
- Age Limit – 49
You’ll notice that the available limits for this plan are the same as for the single trip policy. However, this type of annual policy covers an unlimited number of trips that are each 60 days or less. It’s a great option for frequent travelers who travel at least a few times a year with no individual trip exceeding 60 days.

3. Long Stay Travel Insurance
This type of policy is appropriate for digital nomads and other travelers who plan to stay at a destination for more than 90 days. It’s also a great option for students studying abroad. It covers the following:
- Medical Expenses up to $2.5 million USD
- Repatriation & Early Return up to $500,000 USD
- Luggage Theft & Damage up to $1,200 USD
- COVID 19 Coverage
- Age Limit – 49
This policy may work if you’re moving to a new country but won’t be an official resident or citizen. Since we currently live in Portugal, we use an annual multi-trip policy when we travel to other countries and Portuguese health insurance when we’re at home.

What’s Not Covered
These are some of the things that Heymondo’s travel insurance doesn’t cover:
- Non-Emergency Medical Expenses Abroad
- Non-Emergency Dental Expenses Abroad
- Adventure Activities Including White-Water Rafting, SCUBA Diving, Horseback Riding, Bike Tours, Mountain Biking, Bungee Jumping and Climbing **
- Cruising **
- Pre-Trip COVID -19 Tests
- Electronic Equipment Including Laptops, Tablets and Cameras (Limited Coverage) **
- Zones of Armed Conflict
** You can purchase additional coverage (i.e. riders) if you plan to do adventure activities or take a cruise. You can also increase the limited electronic equipment coverage.

How Much Does A Heymondo Policy Cost?
Heymondo’s premium varies based on factors like age, home country, desired coverage, selected limits, policy term, etc. You’ll need to fill out an online travel insurance application to see your premium based on your underwriting factors.
