The typical annual salary for Generation Z workers was $32,500 in 2021, according to recent research by GoBankingRates. That said, individual salaries vary significantly across different states.

The survey examined the median annual earnings of Gen Zers ages 16 to 24 years old to determine how their income varies by state. This number reflects the middle point of all salary data, so half of workers earn more than this and also half earn less.

The top-paying states are Massachusetts with a median annual salary of $41,491 annually, Washington at $39,976, and Connecticut just behind, at $39,590.

Meanwhile, the lowest-paying states are Mississippi, at $25,346 annually, Arkansas at $26,603, and West Virginia at $27,505.
