Here Is How To Make Money Working Remotely As A Transcriber (1)

The trend or maybe the need for online and at home jobs is only going up day by day. However, not all jobs can be done from home. Only a set of jobs that depend mostly on PC and the internet can only be done from home. Today in this article I am going to discuss and help you with one such work from home job that you can do online.

You would think that with the advancement in technology, transcribers would no longer be in high demand. But it is likely that there will always be a “middle man” (transcriptionist) needed to fill this hole. Online transcription jobs are still plenty and can help you earn a decent amount of money from home.

Quick Money Hacks For Beginners If You Want Fast Money

What Is Transcription

Online transcription is the process of listening to audio files and transcribing (or writing/typing) them to text exactly as heard. This can be difficult for those who are not fast at typing or who are not great at listening. So you typically do need both of these skills to transcribe (or do you?).

Don’t forget that I have one crazy tip for online transcription. In fact, I’m using it right now and let me tell you it makes my life so much easier. It also makes transcribing amazingly simple – though still something that needs to be learned properly.

FREE Transcription Training:

Getting proper training before entering into transcription or any other field will not only ease your struggles but also improve your earnings quickly.

Keeping that in mind, I would like to introduce you to a FREE Transcription course before we head over to the list of companies that offer online transcription jobs.

I suggest you take a look at this FREE 7-Lesson General Transcription Mini-Course by an experienced transcriptionist named Janet Shaugnessy. Simply, this course is super helpful for beginner transcriptionists, just like you.

To get a clear idea of what is transcription is all about, will it fit you or not, and how to find a successful at home career in this field, this is the training you should be part of. If interested, check out this on Transcribe Anywhere website.

If you have any knowledge or experience in the Legal field and want to pursue Legal Transcription, then feel free to look at this FREE Legal Transcription Mini-Course.

Skill Required for Transcription Jobs

Skills are the primary ones that you need to check before you think of starting your career in transcription. Because mere attention cannot make you a successful transcriber. There is more that you need to invest in. The skill requirements are as follows:

  • Good listening skills

  • Typing skills

  • Communication skills

  • Command over spellings, punctuation, and grammar

  • Confidentiality

  • Accuracy

  • Ability to work quickly

  • Computer knowledge

How Much Money Online Transcription Jobs Does Pay?

Well, before looking into the hourly pay rates, let’s discuss how transcriptionists are get paid. They get paid “Per Audio Hour” but not “Per Hour”. Completing typing an hour-long audio file/files is what an Audio Hour means. And on average, they pay $60 – $75 per an audio hour.

According to GMR Transcription, an average person takes 4 hours to transcribe hour-long audio files (Audio Hour) while an experienced transcriptionist takes half of that time to finish.

So, by converting those numbers into hourly pay rates, we may expect $15+ per hour for beginners and moderate level transcriptionists and up to $30 per hour for advanced transcriptionists.

With these rates, one can earn $1500 per month working 2-3 hours daily, or if you work full-time, it would get you around $4000+ per month.

We sorted the list out to include companies that are open to hiring anybody around the world. That includes you and me from a third world country (Holla!!!!)Payments are usually through Paypal, so make sure to have one set up with your real name. (Because if you don’t, it may be a hassle to present proper identification when withdrawing your money). So, just a heads up.

The Tools You Need

Personally, I use Grammarly to detect most of the errors in between my articles!

Appenscribe prides itself on offering global transcription jobs online. If you are fluent in more than one (1) language, then there may be more projects for you to work on. To be hired, you need to register an account and pass two (2) transcription exams. Payments are made twice a month and contractors have different rates per project.

Scribie has a waiting list for aspiring applicants and the pay rate isn’t the best (at $10.00 per audio hour). But you can work at your own pace and whenever you want to and that extra money will add up and come in handy when you need it. If you complete at least three (3) audio hours in a month, you get a bonus of $10.00.

TranscribeMe! has transcription jobs in the English language and Spanish category. Their English language exams are broken up into different categories. 1) Australian English; 2) American English; 3) Irish English; etc.

Once you pass the test, their support team will email you or keep in touch with you. If you fail, you can re-take the exam again in twenty-four (24) hours.

QA World is open to applicants from all around the world and according to reviews on the internet, getting accepted is easy but you need to take a test. They’re always looking for applicants! But be sure to read their instructions before taking the test or taking on projects as you will be rated. They pay $ 0.20 per audio minute and have a flexible working schedule. Work when you can and if you want to!

If you’re interested to apply, you have to send your resume to them by email. Some of their clients include HBO, UCLA, KPMG among others. If transcribing is not your thing, there are also jobs for proofreading, copywriting or editing.

If you like to watch movies and television while working, then Bam! might just be your thing. Heavyweight clients include HBO, ABC, FOX, Warner Bros. etc. Their application form cannot be found on their website, so you have to reach out to them through their email address.

Go! Transcript offers up to $0.60 per video minute allowing you to earn around $1215.00 depending of course on how many hours you put in. You can choose what projects you want to work on, and there’s a variety of projects to choose from too!

WayWithWords is a transcribing company based in the United Kingdom and pays their transcribers per audio minute. The rate starts at $0.40 and when you’re good enough, you can earn up to $ 1.38 per audio minute. That amounts to $82 per audio hour. Transcribers are independent contractors so they can choose when to work and what projects to work on.

Daily Transcription prioritizes candidates from the United States or Canada but is also open to those outside of these two countries (as long as they are proficient in a second language). Their starting rates are higher than most, at $0.75 to $0.85 per audio minute.

CrowdSurf prides itself on offering its transcribers short transcription tasks, which cater to the “deaf, hard of hearing, and second language viewers.’ No need for resumes, interviews or waiting (or so it says on their website) and the tasks are relatively easy (or so they say). Work ranges from five (5) seconds to thirty (30) seconds for each audio clip. And the rates range from $0.03 to $ 0.20 per media minute with additional bonus rates. Find out for yourself and send in your application.

Work from home transcription jobs are difficult if you don't know the veritable tactics and strategies, especially at the beginning, but they can be very rewarding(Im talking here about $3500/monthly working 2 or 3 hours a day from the comfort of your home).
