The unique MAR GEL PLUS formulation allows it to penetrate deeper into the stone than standard products and poultices for more effective and complete stain removal.
Does NOT etch or damage marble(or other acid-sensitive stones) like other rust remover products.
MAR GEL PLUS is applied first in a two-step process. It reacts to remove the rust creating a purple compound that turns darker according to the depth of the rust stain. This purple compound will not stain the stone.
Once applied over the stain to be removed, the product works alone without needing other processes until it completely removes the rust stain. MAR GEL PLUS is easy to use, and its gel formula can be applied on vertical surfaces.
The total dwell time required will vary from 10 minutes to an hour or two for deeply embedded and old rust stains like those that can develop in white marble showers and floors.
OXIDANT is applied next after wiping off the purple compound. It will bind and remove all residues remaining on the stone, completing the stain-removal process. OXIDANT must dwell on the stain for double the amount of time MAR GEL PLUS remained on the stain.
Note: rust stains are sometimes impossible to remove entirely. This product will remove most rust stains, even old andembedded stains. However, it is not guaranteed to remove all stains. Some old or deep stains may be permanent. Replacing the stone is the only option in such cases.
Stain Removal Guide
Marble and granite rust stains occur from metal oxidation of objects left on the surface, repeated exposure to rusty water, or oxidation of metals within the stone itself (common with white marble).
The yellow-orange-brown rust stains are embedded in the stone and cannot be scrubbed away. A rust stain removal process must be used to draw the stain out of the stone.
This powerful DIY rust stain removal kit is formulated to work deep into the stone to lift out and remove the rust stain.
Directions:
- Clean the surface with a stone cleaner like the
- Dry the surface thoroughly.
- Apply the MAR GEL Plus gel so it covers the entire stain but just beyond the edges. If it is large, then consider applying it in sections.
- Keep track of the total dwell time.
- Allow itto dwell on the stain for as long as needed. The exact dwell time cannot be determined. However, consider how old and deep the stain may be and avoid rushing the process. It may take up to two hours. The gel will continue to darken as it penetrates and reacts with deeper rust stains.
- Once it appears the purple color is no longer darkening, allow it to dwell 10 minutes more and then carefully wipe off all the gel with paper towels.
- Next, apply OXIDANT over the same area where the MAR GEL PLUS was applied.
- Allow it to dwell for twice the amount of time MAR GEL PLUS was on the surface.
- Wipe off all OXIDANT with paper towels until dry.
- Clean the surface again with the Granite & Marble Cleaning Spray.
If a stain remains, repeat the process. A second round will require much less time to complete.
