GoFundMe $10,000 College Scholarship

Yesterday I was contacted by the fine folks over at GoFundMe and asked if I would share their brand new college scholarship.

2021 Update: This scholarship is no longer offered, so I have removed the link. Scroll down for a list of other scholarships to check out.

I quickly read through the details of the GoFundMe College Scholarship and knew it was something that my readers would like to check out.

Here are all the details about this new and exciting college scholarship opportunity:

    • Open to current college students, including grad students
    • 10 awards of $10,000 each are available
    • To apply, students create a GoFundMe campaign, or modify an existing one, using the description #GFMScholarship between Sept 21 and Sept 28
    • The description of the campaign must share why the student deserves to receive the scholarship money
    • The campaign is shared on social media and must get at least 10 unique donors to be eligible to win
    • Campaigns may be created by the students, friends, family members, professors, or anyone else who feels the student is in need of the scholarship money
    • All eligible campaigns will be reviewed by GoFundMe and 10 will be chosen in October to win $10,000 for college

NO GPA, school transcripts, or letter of recommendation required.

Winning Tips: Time is of the essence for this scholarship! The window to create or modify a GoFundMe campaign is only a week-long and ends on Sept 28. Parents, this is your chance to do ALL the work for your student and play a huge part in their winning $10,000 for college.

Although there technically is no essay portion for this scholarship, the description of the campaign must include reasons why the student deserves to win. Treat this like the essay, beginning with a hook (as I explain here) and sharing personal details as to why the student should win.

Don’t forget to include the hashtag #GFMScholarship and ask family and friends to do their part to share the campaign across social media as much as possible.

Since the window for applying is so short and the scholarship is new, there will not be a lot of applicants. If you need money for college, don’t let this opportunity pass you by!

Read theGoFundMe campaign to get a feel for what the judging committee is looking for in a winner. If you develop a campaign, please let me know and I’ll do my part to help you get it noticed on social media (Tweet me! @AidScholarship). Read the articles below before writing your campaign description to make sure you write the best one possible.
