FZROX: Fidelity® ZERO Total Market Index Fund

FZROX is a Zero Total Market Index Fund released and managed by Fidelity Investments to provide investors with ROI from a wide range of US Stocks.

The strategy behind this fund is to invest at least 80% of the fund into buying common stocks of publicly-traded companies in the US stock market. Essentially, the fund is designed to reflect the US equity market.

Managers of FZROX use statistical sampling based on certain key factors like industry exposure, dividend yields, capitalization, price earning ratio, price-book value, and earnings growth, among others. With FZROX, you invest in the broad US market, while paying zero fees.

Like with all financial instruments, FZROX carries its own risk that you should be aware of. This mutual fund is susceptible to the volatility of stock markets not only in the US but international stock markets as well.

In a negative market situation, the value of FZROX can drop. Other factors that may affect its value include political climate, regulation, economic development, the current market situation, among other things. This isn’t any different from other mutual funds and index funds.

FSKAX: Fidelity® Total Market Index Fund

FSKAX or Fidelity Total Market Index Fund is another mutual fund issued by Fidelity Investments. The fund is designed to accommodate a broad range of US-based stocks of publicly-traded companies.

FSKAX invests about 80% of assets into common stocks trades in the US Dow Jones. So, if you go for this fund, expect the fund to react based on a wide range of stocks listed in the portfolio, not a single or few stocks.

FZROX Vs. FSKAX: Key Differences

As a potential investor looking to invest in either of these funds, you need to understand their differences to be well informed before making an investment decision. Now, both funds are more similar than they are different.

FZROX Vs. FSKAX - Which Fund Is For You? (1)

The main difference we see between both is that as a holder of FZROX, you cannot take your investments out of Fidelity without selling your holding. And doing that will mean you have to pay capital gains tax. However, if you are on a tax-deferred IRA, you don’t have to do that.

Another difference between both has to do with their expense ratio. FSKAX is much older than FZROX, and it has an expense ratio of 0.02%, which happens to be one of the best of any Total US Stock Market Index fund as of today. However, for FZROX, the expense fee is 0.00%, so holders of this fund pay nothing.
