The FTSE 100 edged higher at the start of a week that will be dominated by central bank meetings, while mid-cap companyBytes Technology (BYIT) slumped over an investigation into undisclosed share deals.

The blue-chip index added five points to 7,734 ahead of central banker meetings this week to consider the future path of interest rate rises in an environment of rising geopolitical risk, although there was a slightly more positive outlook for the Chinese economy.

The US Federal Reserve is expected to hold interest rates for a fifth consecutive time on Wednesday as inflation stays hotter than expected and the labour market remains resilient.
