Food store Iceland is offering 10% off your food shopping for the over 60s to help with the cost of living crisis. From 24 May 2022, customers aged over 60 will receive a 10 per cent discount on their groceries every Tuesday with no minimum spend. The discount is available in-store and at The Food Warehouse branches. You’ll need to show proof of age in the form of a driver’s licence, bus pass or senior railcard.

The diamond card that used to offer discounts to over 60s has now closed to existing and new members but there are still ways to get big discounts on your meals. It’s worth registering on the mailing list of your favourite restaurant for exclusive offers or follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
Gourmet Society
It’snot just for the over 60s but Gourmet Society members get great savings at a huge variety of participating restaurants, from Michelin-starred fine dining establishments to national chains and local family favourites. Just show your plastic or digital in-app membership card, and receive one of the following offers:

The Taste Card is much like Gourmet Society. You can use it to receive 50% off your food or 2 for 1 meals at over 6,000 restaurants across the UK. It also offers discounts on cinema tickets, movie streaming, days out and retail specials for members. There’s a handy app that will show you local restaurants, hotels and pubs that have deals on and they claim you’ll save £18.88 on average every time you use it.

Check out Groupon UK for local dining deals if you plan on eating out. Whilst, not specifically for OAPs or over 60s, you’ll find some great deals on eating out with massive discounts – we found deals offering savings of between 20% and 65% off.

National Trust
The rules for this one are a bit onerous but over 60s can get 25% annualNational Trust membership, if they’ve held a full individual or joint membership for 5 of the last 10 years.
English Heritage
You’ll have to wait until you’re 65 for senior membership with English Heritage. Their senior membership offer gives you unlimited access to over 400 historic places across the UK for one year for £46 instead of £54. Grandchildren go free with up to six accompanying children under 18 years and within the family group per adult member, so you can really get your money’s worth in the school holidays. Kew Royal Botanical Gardens
You’ll need more than one day to see everything that this UNESCO World Heritage site has to offer. Trim trails – also known as outdoor gyms, fitness trails or activity trails – are made up of simple pieces of exercise equipment, such as parallel bars, leapfrog blocks, inclined press-ups and balance beams dotted around parks, recreation areas or alongside cycle routes.
The free equipment can be used to do various exercises, including step-ups, sit-ups, lunges and press-ups, to develop balance, strength and coordination.

Travel discounts for over 60s
Rail Travel
If you’re over 60, you qualify for aSenior Railcard. It costs £30 but you get a ⅓ off any standard or first class ticket. If you plan on travelling by rail, that’s a huge saving. For a 3-year plan, you pay only £70, saving you even more. If you live in Scotland and are over 50, you can opt forScotRail’s Club 50card. Membership costs £15 a year and you get 20% discount on off-peak and advance bookings as well as other benefits and perks.
60+ Oyster Card
The60+ Oyster Cardhas a one-off cost of £20 and If you live in a London borough, you can use the city’s public transport free. A weekly travel card for an adult (Zones 1-6) costs £62.30, so if you use London transport a lot, you will make some big savings. Top Tip:If you have an Oyster card and a senior railcard, you can take them both to a main London rail ticket office and ask them to link the railcard to the Oyster card. This will mean your journey by Oyster will cost 30% less on London Transport. You have to redo this whenever you renew your railcard.
Bus Travel
In England and Wales, access to afree bus passis linked to women’s state pension age, even for men. If you live in London, you can travel for free on buses and tubes with a 60+ London Oyster photocard which costs £20 until you qualify for a Freedom Pass.
National Express
Save 1/3 on standard and fully flexible fares to hundreds of towns, cities and airports across the UK withSenior Coachcard. You can also use your card for travel on Tuesdays and you’ll pay just £15 for a day return anywhere in the UK (except airports). You have to book your tickets three days in advance.The card costs £10 a year plus £2.50 p&p.

Advice for discounts for over 60s
Our final piece of advice if you want to save money in retirement is simply to ask, as long as you’re polite they can only say no, but they may just say yes!
