What do they do at the cage if you refuse to show id?
Say you bring chips to the cage. They ask to see your id and you don't have it or don't show it. What do they do? Can they confinscate your chips?
This happeened to me one time and the casino just gave me the chips back and refused to cash them and I left. Is this standard in all casions?
What happens if you are being 86ed? Do you have to cash the chips or can you legaly take them out of the casino with you?
No Requirement to Show ID

No requirement to show ID unless you hit the CTR threshold. Assuming you're under that, just politely refuse. All they need is a description of the person cashing to enter into their books and if they refuse to cash them, you may want to let them know you're going to call Gaming and/or possibly initiate litigation.

I'd take my chips and just leave and have someone change them later...Of course I'd do this BEFORE they 86 me...hopefully.

1. They can refuse to cash your chips. MGM Grand, for 5K chips, has been known to confiscate them and issue you a receipt until the player produces an ID or players card which shows the play where the 5K chip was obtained.
2. Requiring ID for cash-outs greater than 3K is now standard practice in Nevada. New Mexico Native American casinos require ID for almost all cash transactions. AC and CT don't ask for anything right up to the 10K CTR threshold. Biloxi casinos vary greatly by casino. IP requests nothing for $9900, Beau Rivage and Grand Casino is like Vegas. LA has a $2K threshold at many places for ID.
3. IF being 86'd the casino usually desires you to cashout because they can get the best picture of you at the cage. Simply refuse and leave without coloring up. If you color up they will try to give you high denomination chips that are hard for others to cash. Of course you can take the chips with you. When 86'd you should always just leave, preferably looking at the carpet most of the way out.
What to do? If you play rated you can cashout up to 10K and just show your players card. (except New Mexico). If you play unrated you have to cashout less than 3K at a time in Vegas if you don't want to provide ID.
Hope this helps.
unless you look under 21
"What happens if you are being 86ed? Do you have to cash the chips or can you legaly take them out of the casino with you?"
They let you cash out. They usually "can" you AFTER you cash out.
You are required to show ID if you look underaged.
AC and CT
"AC and CT don't ask for anything right up to the 10K CTR threshold."
Correct. They won't even ask for your player's card or even bother with a CTR if you are positively identified with your social security number, or perhaps you need to at least fill one CTR form out previously.
ID for smaller cashouts?
"2. Requiring ID for cash-outs greater than 3K is now standard practice in Nevada."
Are the simply IDing you or are they starting a record for tax purposes to make sure you arent sneaking in multiple smaller cashouts?
