This is a warning to anyone looking to buy 2022 Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus for their small business. You are FORCED to pay for a subscription every year of at least $300 and we know that cost will go up. I had purchased 2021 to use and did not realize the "free" subscription that came with it would end up being a yearly charge until I lost access to my data. I then looked on the back of the package and in SMALL print it states you have to pay the fee every year. So I went out and purchased 2022 - I have now spent at least $700 within a year. I have never used their support until I started having issues because of the 2021 subscription being canceled. The yearly subscription should be a choice to use or not!!

They offered QBD 2021 Pro and QBD 2021 Pro Plus. If you bought QBD 2021 Pro Plus, you can still purchase a new one time license for QBD 2021 Pro. You don't need to renew your QBD Pro Plus.

I’ve got some information to share with you, @ljl1957.

Recently, QuickBooks Desktop's one-time purchase products are no longer available. All users now need to subscribe to an annual subscription plan regardless of their product type.

You can reach out to our support team or our sales department for more information about the subscription. Here’s how:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to the Help menu, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Click Contact Us.
  4. Enter "Subscription" in the field, then choose a way to connect with us.

Our Support page contains several resources, video tutorials, and tips to manage your company. If you need information, feel free to visit the site.

If you have any other questions or concerns besides subscription, just add them to your reply below. I’ll be here anytime to help. Keep safe!

It gets even worse if you have three years on your computer which I have to maintain because of payroll and clients using different versions. I estimate that when I purchase my 2024 version, I will pay whatever it is that year, then I will need to pay again 2023, 2022 and 2021 which makes my cost over 1000. QuickBooks has found a new way to make money without giving customer service. Every time I get transferred to the Phillippines the service down hill.

I was forced to buy a "subscription" for my 2021 Quickbooks Pro Desktop program that I purchased in Jan 2021. I am getting nothing for this money, just the ability to access my company files. Complete rip-off. I have used Quickbooks in numerous versions for at least 30 years and never had to pay a yearly subscription. When I bought a new program, that is all I paid. I have never used the Support because I am an expert with Quickbooks. This is just a way for them to charge a fee and nothing what so ever is given to the customer. Just a way for Intuit to generate more revenue. Very aggravating!!

@Subscription rip-off

They offer QB Desktop 2021 with 2 different licensing options. i.e one time/non subscription license and Plus/subscription license. You can still purchase QB Desktop 2021 with the one time license if required.

This JUST happened to me today as well! I had no idea the "Plus" was an annual thing? I asked them to remove the Plus so I could just use Pro as I have been doing for over 15 years, and they told me I would lose my data if I didn't renew my Pro Plus. DIRTY, ROTTEN, GREEDY!!! Totally unsatisfied with this new technique to gouge people, especially with how hard it is to already afford basic necessities in this horrible economy. I'm going to look at taking my business elsewhere, the problem is that I'm SO experienced using their products. Intuit, I can't us foul language on here, but I guess you'll understand if I say "you can put it where the sun don't shine!"

@TJ512

Your file is secured. You can still open it on another QB Desktop program with the trial or active license. If you were using QB Desktop 2021 Pro Plus, you can still purchase the one time license for QB Desktop 2021 Pro. They have announced their plan to increase the price for the upcoming QB Desktop 2023 and the renewal price for QB Desktop 2022.

I was also shocked to know that they have turned down the one-time purchase, and we need to buy the subscription to keep our books maintained. I consider it to be a new way from them to rip us off.

But what can we do?

My lazy accountant did look out for this and keep resting.

Now I take the charge fired him to reduce the cost of my sublimation business and put it into renewing my access following this guide;https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/account-status/resubscribe-reactivate...

The point is for 2022 version forward they are FORCING us to buy a subscription. I am not putting all of my company data online. QB needs to SERIOUSLY rethink this. You are going to lose a lot of customers, me included.

OK fine if you want to move to a subscription model, that's your call. But HOW DARE you cut off my access to my Desktop Pro 2018 version!! I fully paid for it, and there was no subscription model when I bought it. How DARE you now cut me off from my own software??

Hi there, ChrisPATX.

I'm here to ensure you're able to access QuickBooks Desktop.

QuickBooks Desktop has a 3- year life cycle, and upgrading it from 2018 to the latest version in QuickBooks is a big jump. First off, we'll need to create a backup file to make sure that the data will be saved before upgrading.

To get started, let's perform the following steps to back up your company file:

  1. Go to the File menu, choose Back Up Company, then select Create Local Backup.
  2. Select Local Backup.
  3. Click Options.
  4. In the Tell us where to save your backup copies field, select Browse and select the location in which to save the backup copy.
  5. Hit OK.
  6. In the Create Backup window, specify whether to back up automatically, and select Options to set options for automatic backups.
  7. Select New to set a backup schedule in the Schedule Backups dialog.
  8. Click Finish.

It's also important to know thesystem requirements for the 2019 version. This ensures that the software is compatible with your new computer to get the best experience in using QuickBooks.

You can check out this article on how to Upgrade Your Company Files. After that, update QuickBooksso you have the recent features and needed patches.

Let us know how itgoes by commenting below. We're glad to continue to help you andensure you're able to use your QuickBooks Desktop. Stay safe.

What happened? Are you unable to run the program anymore?

You would think QB would want to give there users the option. For the past 10 years they have been forcing me to upgrade by killing functions to their program, mainly bank and email communications. This forcing happened every 3 years with the version I was using. So, paying $300 for the program at Sam's every 3rd year was becoming expected, but now it has become $300 every year.

... this is not good business practice.

Absolute rip-off! I paid a hefty price each year for a new QB desktop version-EVERY year! And now all of a sudden I don't have access to my QB Pro 2021. This is not only unethical, but illegal. I did not purchase a subscription in prior years. Anyone else went to their state Attorney General to research this?

Login to your CAMPS as Primary Contact and check your license status there. It is possible that you were using a subscription license for QBD 2021.

And this is a joke on so many levels. I called said department today. Reached a guy that barely spoke or understood English. Then told me I needed to call the retail store(Costco) since that's where I purchased my 2021 Desktop version. QB needs to be held accountable for their actions.
