I have been practising finance in big and small and middle compagnies. I can tell you, even if you are right when writting that the roles are the same, that the organizations are quite different and very often some functions are quite reduced, especially controlling , treasury and reporting. Unfortunately, finance function is seen as only a cost. There is a reel need for SME to understand that more finance guys in their organisation is an investissem*nt and not a cost.Useless yo say that AI might be a solution... or will increase the gap between those compagnies that have strong finance analysis abilities and those that do not. AI is a challenge, even more for small and middle businesses

Abdul Khaliq i don’t think it’s professionally correct for a risk department to be under CFO hierarchy in order to keep correct checks and balances this department should be independent and report to the Audit committee which is of the company governing board.

This is true at the corporate level. At business unit level or sometimes even locally we need business finance. Have you looked into that part of the organization, Abdul?

I think its rational to have a transformation team for finance under CFO. Not only as PMO but to help sustain /govern business process management and also to expedite transformation.

If you are an accounting student looking at job opportunities and wondering if you should apply for jobs labeled “Finance” the answer is almost surely yes!As this graphic shows, we’ve relabeled most accounting jobs as finance. It’s less about the label and more about your ability to understand and use financial data, uncover and solve problems and work on effective communication… all of which you should be set up for with an #accounting degree at the Texas McCombs School of Business If you are choosing majors, consider the same and don’t get distracted by labels.

Setting up a finance department in an organization can be a daunting task but it is a critical process that can contribute to the success of an organization. Here are a few points to guide you through the process:1. Define the finance department's structure and functions: This includes determining the number of employees, their roles and responsibilities, and reporting lines. You need to understand the purpose of the finance department and what it will take to set it up.2. Hire competent personnel. You need to hire skilled individuals with specialized knowledge in finance and accounting. Consider recruiting a finance team that includes a CFO, Finance Manager, Financial Controller, financial analysts, bookkeepers, etc. depending on the size and nature of your business.Set up an accounting system. This includes establishing a chart of accounts, which is a list of all the organization's accounts and account numbers. It will enable the finance department to record transactions accurately, generate financial statements, and provide reports to management.3. Develop financial policies and procedures. These policies and procedures help the finance department operate efficiently and effectively. You need to establish policies and procedures that guide the finance department's operations, such as budgeting, reporting, fixed asset management, invoice management, and expense management. These policies and procedures should be in line with the organization's goals and objectives.4. Invest in technology. Investing in technology is essential for managing finances in today's business environment. You need to invest in financial software that will streamline your finance operations, including accounting, payroll, and tax reporting. Financial software will help you track expenses, generate financial reports, and manage cash flow. Some additional tips for setting up a finance department would include;Start small and scale up as needed. You don't need to hire a full team of finance professionals right away. You can start with a few key people and add more as your business grows.Outsource non-core functions. If you don't have the resources to handle all of the finance functions in-house, you can outsource some of them to a third-party provider. This can save you time and money.Keep your financial data secure. Your financial data is one of your most valuable assets, so you need to make sure it's secure. Use strong passwords and encryption to protect your data from unauthorized access.Stay up-to-date on financial regulations. The financial regulatory landscape is constantly changing, so you need to make sure you're aware of the latest regulations. This will help you avoid fines and penalties.
