What is a Statement of Examination Results/Parchment?

A Statement of Examination Results (transcript) is a detailed account of examination results, i.e. a list of subjects, percentage awarded per subject, and overall results.

A parchment is official certification of the award, conferred by the awarding body. The parchment details the student name, the course title, and the overall result achieved.

How do I get a replacement Statement of Examination Results?

You must fill in the Request for Transcript form, which you find under Documents and Policies and return with the appropriate fee to the Examinations Office.

Award Classification – Minor Award (Special Purpose Award/Single Subject Certificate)

The Institute awards a number of Minor Awards i.e. those programmes that provide recognition for learners who achieve a range of learning outcomes linked to a major award but not the specific combination of learning outcomes or credits required for a major award.

These have only two award classifications – Pass/Fail

Can my parchment be re-issued?

Yes. The awarding body will facilitate the re-issue of a parchment. There is normally a charge for this service. The first step is to identify the awarding body. For L6/L7 awards conferred prior to Autumn 2003 and L8 conferred prior to Autumn 2005, applications should be directed Quality and Qualifications Ireland (telephone 01-6314567). Applications for re-issue of parchments in respect of awards conferred after these dates should be forwarded to the Examinations Office of the Institute using the procedure which you will find under Document and Policies.

Can I get a copy of my son’s/daughter’s results?

In the case of a minor (under 18 years of age), details can be released to the parent or guardian.

In all other cases, the Institute cannot release details of individual examination results to any person other than the student in question.

It is a legal requirement (under the Data Protection Act) that the Institute obtains a letter of release, signed by the student, approving the issue of his/her examination results to a named third party.

Can I get my examination results over the telephone?

No. Examination results cannot be given over the telephone. The Data Protection Act applies.

How soon after my exams are finished can I get my results, and where?

Details regarding the release date of examination results are emailed to students. Results are issued via your student account . Your student number and pin are required to access these results. Notification of Pins will be e-mailed to students in advance of the release of results. Please keep this information safe as Pins will not be issued over the phone.

A Statement of Examination Results is issued to each student via our Digitary system. An email will issue to your student email to notify you of this.

How do I apply to repeat an examination?

When your Semester 2 examination results are issued, you will note a ‘Reapply’ link directly underneath your results which you click on to complete and submit an application for the repeat sitting.

Is the repeat examination fee applied per subject?

No. The repeat examination fee is only charged once per academic year, irrespective of the number of subjects to be repeated.

How often can I repeat an examination?

There is a restriction of the number of times an examination can be repeated. An exam can be repeated up to a maximum of four times. Please note that repeat exams for a particular course cannot be guaranteed after 2 years of the start of the programme due to programmatic reviews and changes to course content.
