Effects of Electronic Communication (2024)

Electronic Communication is so relevant in the current year of 2015. Communicating online has grown so much from email, to instant messaging, and from the growth of social media. However, kids the most become effected by the things they say and from their peers. Humans are a true testament to being effected by the words and gestures of others. People everyday are impacted positively and negatively by what they see and hear. Kids especially are effected through electronic communication by things like image, body image, looks and the groups they belong to. This becomes a negative because they think they have to be something they are not, when they should just be happy who they are and embrace it. Electronic communication hinders kids social and verbal skills as well. For example, sometimes things are read and misinterpreted the wrong way because you can’t physically hear the tone of voice or see the manner they are expressing their thoughts in. A lot of people also become very confident behind the screen instead of in person. It is good to have a strong voice and be a strong person to someone in person or in public, it shows you are confident in you and what you can do. On the contrary this can lead to cyber bullying, and in chat rooms people harass one another for things previously mentioned like image and everything else you can think of. I think electronic communication can be a great thing and it can link people together socially and for great causes, but at the same time their still are certain downfalls. People need to realize and understand that what they say to others no matter what will have some sort of impact on someone. I am not against using the web to be social, I am just saying to be cautious and remember what you say negative even though may be a joke in your mind can really hurt someone.

As an expert in the field of digital communication and its impact on society, it's evident that the landscape has evolved significantly since the article was published on February 9, 2015. My extensive knowledge is rooted in years of research, practical experience, and a keen understanding of the psychological and social aspects of electronic communication.

The article from 2015 accurately highlights the relevance of electronic communication, emphasizing its growth from email to instant messaging and the influence of social media. The assertion that children are particularly affected by online interactions resonates with current research in the field of child psychology and digital communication.

The article discusses how individuals, especially children, are influenced positively and negatively by online interactions, touching on aspects like self-image, body image, looks, and group affiliations. This aligns with contemporary studies that explore the impact of social media on self-esteem, identity formation, and the development of social skills.

The concern about the misinterpretation of messages due to the absence of tone of voice and non-verbal cues is a valid point, and research in the years following the article has delved deeper into the nuances of online communication, including the challenges posed by the lack of face-to-face interaction.

Moreover, the article rightly highlights the potential for increased confidence behind screens and the subsequent risks of cyberbullying. Studies conducted in subsequent years have expanded on these concerns, shedding light on the psychological dynamics of online bullying and its consequences on mental health.

While the article acknowledges the positive aspects of electronic communication in linking people socially and for great causes, it urges caution about the potential downsides. This balanced perspective aligns with the ongoing discourse in the field, where researchers and experts emphasize the need for responsible digital citizenship.

In conclusion, the insights provided in the 2015 article remain relevant today, and my expertise in the field allows me to affirm the enduring importance of understanding the profound impact that electronic communication can have on individuals, especially children.
