Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: A Parents Guide
Doctor Strange (played by Benedict Cumberbatch ) is back, except this time he’s joined by Wanda (played by Elizabeth Olsen) and newcomer America Chavez (played by Xochitl Gomez). In this latest addition to the MCU, Doctor Strange has to traverse the multiverse to save not only his world, but all worlds, from the evil effects of the dark hole. Sounds quite sinister, doesn’t it? A movie that has horror elements to it, here’s what parents need to know about the Doctor Strange 2age rating.
What is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessRated?
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is rated PG-13, which means that some material is not suitable for children under the age of 13. For example, the movie might contain violence, brief language and/or nudity. Here, the movie doesn’t contain any sexual content like nudity but it does contain brief language, graphic violence and thematic elements. More about that below.
Language
Characters do use profanity in this movie, but it’ not as frequent as the curse words in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsand Black Widow. Characters say words like “sh*t,” *son of a —–,” “a*s,” and “hell.”
Graphic Violence/Thematic Elements
This movie is mostly rated PG-13 because there is a lot of graphic violence. For example, some of the characters’ heads explode, their neck is nearly twisted off, they are impaled, ripped apart, and executed. And that’s just a small fraction of the violence depicted in the movie. There are scenes that are more at-home in horror movies than you would traditionally find in Marvel movies. And some may also find it disturbing that a popular character they think of as a hero does very unheroic things throughout this movie.
Overall Thoughts
Is this the best Marvel movie? No. Could it have been better? Yes. Overall, though, I actually liked this movie, despite the lukewarm reviews it has received from other outlets. Proceed with caution, though, if you have younger kids. There are definitely scenes that younger children might find scary, especially due to the horror-like elements contained throughout the movie.
