DIY Shower Cleaner (1)

There’s nothing quite like starting your day with a rinse in your sparkling clean, fresh shower. There’s also nothing quite as discouraging as ending the day with a hot shower and looking around to see water stains, mold, and soap scum built up.

I’ve experienced BOTH and I know which one I would choose.

Keeping a clean shower all of the time is kind of hard. Like you have to clean it at least every week. And if your cleaning products aren’t effective, its just a waste of time!

For as long as I can remember I have cleaned our bathrooms on a weekly basis as a homemaker. And for as long as I can remember, cleaning the showers when cleaning the bathrooms has been my LEAST favorite chore.

Its okay to talk about least favorite chores right?! Right.

I think it has to do with the shower being such a big, involved area. There’s a lot to clean! And you pretty much have to climb into the shower and scrub it from top to bottom to clean it. Not to mention moving stuff around (cause your girl likes her shower products lol).

We all know it helps to have a good shower cleaning spray when cleaning your shower. Something that you can spray on, let sit while you clean the rest of the bathroom, then scrub down and rinse off.

Have you tried a bunch of different shower cleaning sprays and you’re just itching to make your own?! I was the same! Maybe you want something cheap, easy, and quick to make?

You’re in luck! This is do it yourself daily shower spray is JUST that.

It will totally feed your DIY bug, and after you make it you should move onto making your own all-purpose cleaning spray, and then a grout cleaner, and THEN your own DIY laundry soap. The options are endless! So fun!

What is the best homemade shower cleaner?

The best homemade shower cleaner is a mix of distilled white vinegar and regular ol’ dish soap. Its so simple and easy, but SO effective! You won’t ever need to buy store-bought shower cleaner again.

You’ll want to use a spray bottle to store it in. Normally I love THESE amber glass spray bottles for all my homemade cleaning products, but because I keep this DIY shower cleaner inside the shower most of the time, I wanted a plastic bottle. I decided on THESE plastic spray bottles on Amazon and I have been really happy with them.

This DIY shower cleaner spray can be used on a weekly basis (or more often if that’s your thing), to get your shower walls and glass spick and spam. I wish I could show you the results on shower glass, but we don’t have glass doors in our shower anymore.

DIY Shower Cleaner Spray Recipe

Supplies:

To make a DIY shower cleaning spray you’ll need the following:

Instructions:

Combine equal parts Dawn dish soap with white vinegar in your spray bottle. Shake to combine. You could use a different kind of dish soap, or a natural option like Dr. Bronner’s castile soap, BUT it won’t work as well. Dawn dish soap is great at cutting through grime, and its no different in your shower.

Well, that’s it! Its really that easy and simple!

How to Use Your DIY Shower Cleaner

When you want to use your DIY shower cleaner spray, start by moving everything out of the shower. You don’t want to be working around things. Next, use your cleaning spray to spray all over your shower and tub area. A little bit goes a LONG way. Start very small only spraying a bit and then spray more if you feel like you need to.

Don’t forget the tile walls, tub, and the glass doors if you have them. Let it sit for a few minutes (use this time to scrub down the toilet). Then, you can use a scrub brush or wet rag to scrub down everywhere you sprayed. Finally, give it all a good rinse!

That’s it! You can do this about once a week when you do your weekly bathroom cleaning, OR you can read below to see how I save a little bit of time and energy when cleaning the shower by doing it a different way!

Tips for Keeping Your Shower Clean The EASY Way

I mentioned in the beginning of this post how much I dread cleaning the shower in my weekly cleaning. It feels like such a hassle and just kind of intimidates me! I felt like it took such a long time to move all the stuff around, climb into the shower, scrub it all down, put everything back, etc.

SO I came up with a solution.

I keep my homemade shower cleaning spray in our shower, hanging on the hook. Then I also keep a tile and grout scrub brush. I have the one from Grove Collaborative, but HERE is a similar one on Amazon.

When I take a shower (I don’t do it every day, maybe once or twice a week, but however often you like) I spray down the tile in the shower. I go about my shower like normal. Then after a couple minutes, I scrub down the walls like normal.

WARNING: if you don’t like the smell of vinegar, go very light with your spray at first, because the vinegar smell WILL be strong.

I’m already in the shower, I’m not worried about getting wet, and it only takes a couple minutes.

You can also keep a magic eraser in your shower, toss it down on the tub, and use your foot to scrub down the tub while you shower. Be careful of course!

The point with all of this is, its easy to create a habit around cleaning your shower when you’re already taking a shower, because there’s no friction around it. You’re in there, you already have a habit of taking a shower so tack on the habit of cleaning the shower while you’re in there. Easy peasy.
