I had so much fun planning for my best friend’s bachelorette party! I was able to make some wine glasses, shot glasses and some hangover kits for a fraction of the price that I would have paid if I had ordered them.

I was able to make the wine glasses for $2.56 each and the shot glasses for 78¢! And that includes the paint and paint brushes. I still have plenty of paint and the paint brushes, so if I do this again it would only be the cost of the wine glasses or shot glasses themselves.

I was able to get 12 wine glasses for $12.99 at Marshall’s:

I also picked up 12 shot glasses for $7.98.

The paint was only $1.79 each. I got gloss enamel paintDIY Hand Painted Wine Glasses and Shot Glasses - Eat, Drink, and Save Money (4) that is safe for glass. You can also use glass markers to write directly on the glass.

First I had to clean each glass with rubbing alcohol.

I printed the letters in the font that I wanted (it took several tried to get the right size).

Next I taped the letters to the inside of the glass so I could trace them.

This was a smaller one, I ended up making bigger letters. Then I painted! It took forever! I really thought this would be quick, but it took a while to get used to the paint and the brush. The paint was also really thin and I needed to do 3-4 layers just to get it as dark as I wanted.

I painted the bottoms pink so I had to dry them upside down. The shot glasses also got letters, and pink paint on the bottom.

I started off with a glass of wine, but had to stop. It was too hard to paint sober, I couldn’t handle the buzz!

Tomorrow I will go into detail about the hangover kits that I was able to make for $2.02 each.

This def took more time then I would have liked but it was a fun experience and a great way to make my friends party special without spending a lot of money.

How have you made a party special for less? I would love to hear!

What did you use to seal the paint on the glasses so they did not rub off or get ruined during use.

I didn’t use anything special. Baking it kept it on very well. The glasses I made in this post just started to fade! I have since made another batch and have found that they do NOT hold up well to the dishwasher. If you hand wash them, they should last for years! Mine held up better than ones that I paid over $20 for!

You can change the size when printing? I sometimes try different %- Maybe go with 150% and see if that helps?

FAQs

What kind of paint do you use to paint wine glasses? ›

You can buy glass paints that are specially designed to stick to the surface and go on in solid swipes of color. They're inexpensive to buy and easy to use. But if you don't want to stock up on glass paints just yet, you can choose from four other options: acrylic enamel, regular acrylic, tempera and poster paint.

What kind of paint do you use on shot glasses? ›

For painting a drinking glass, it's best to use non-toxic, water-proof paint. Look for acrylic enamel paint specifically designed for glass or multi-surface use. These paints are safe for surfaces that come in contact with food and beverages, ensuring they are non-toxic.

How do you seal painted wine glasses? ›

To seal acrylic paint on glass, purchase an acrylic sealant that is suitable for use on glass surfaces. Choose a glass paint sealer with a glossy finish (rather than a matte finish) for best results. These types of sealant are available in spray-on or brush-on formulas.

How do you make hand painted glasses? ›

I clean my glass with alcohol, paint with Folk Art Enamel paint (for glass), dry for 1 hour, place glass pieces in the cold oven, preheat to 350, bake for 30 mins., cool in oven. No sealer is needed. Paint product states dishwasher safe on top rack, but I don't do it. I recommend hand wash and dry with a soft cloth.
