Discarding (Japanese: てる Suteru) is a form of removing cards from the hand.

Cards can be discarded in several ways:

It is possible to discard multiple cards at once. For example, "Card Destruction" discards multiple cards at once, but is still considered a single act of discarding cards (for the purposes of cards such as "Blessings of the Nile").

Although discarded cards are sent to the Graveyard by default, the term "discard" on its own does not specify where those cards are sent to. Even if those cards are not sent to the Graveyard, they are still considered to be discarded. For example, even while the effect of "Macro Cosmos" is being applied, a player can still discard 1 card to activate "Magic Jammer" as usual; the discarded card will just be banished instead.

Note that only effects that specifically have the term "discard" stated in their texts involve discarding. The effects of cards such as "Hand Destruction", "Chain Destruction", "Polymerization" and "Black Illusion Ritual" send cards from the hand to the Graveyard, but they do not discard cards.

The "Dark World" and "Fabled" archetypes revolve around discarding.
