Desire is a member of The Endless and the main antagonist of the Sandman comic book series from the DC Comics universe. They are the fifth sibling of The Endless, being the entity that embodies lust and love. They are the archenemy of their brother, Dream.
In the audio books, they were voiced by Justin Vivian Bond. In the 2022 live-action series, they are portrayed by Mason Alexander Park and act as the overarching antagonist of the first season.
Biography[]
Desire is one of the many forms of The Endless born from Time and Night as the fifth twin and older siblings to Despair. They are prideful and narcissistic, as they rule over their own dimension much like the rest of their siblings, as he is noted to have seduced many men and women in his life time. They have a huge rivalry with their older brother Dream, as they used to get along until Desire seduced their brother's girlfriend, and caused their bond to break into a bitter grudge. Desire is also the ancestor to Rose Walker, one of the many recurring characters in The Sandman comics. He had also raped a woman named Unity Kincaid at one point in her dreams.
Desire had spend much of the series manipulating the events to bring down their brother Dream and to eventually use the kindly ones to destroy him. However, despite their cruelty, Desire is not without some compassion to some people, like how they treated their descendant, Rose. At the end of the original series, after Dream's death and Daniel Hall becoming the new Dream, Desire felt remorseful for causing the death of their brother.
Powers and abilities[]
As one of The Endless, Desire has possessed many abilities like reality warping, shapeshifting, and magic manipulation. He is also quite manipulative.
