The purpose of a demat account is to hold your shares and other securities electronically. Various investments, including bonds, equity shares, government securities, mutual funds, etc., can be held in this account.
There are various charges involved when it comes to maintaining a demat account and it varies with each brokerage. The charges can be levied for account opening, account maintenance, custodian fees, transaction fees, dematerialization fees.
Here is a comparison of various demat account charges of a few popular brokerages, according to their websites.
Zerodha demat account charges
Zerodha charges Rs 300 plus GST annually for Individual, HUF, and partnership firms as Account Maintenance Charge (AMC). It charges Rs 200 as an online account opening charge for Equity trading and demat account, according to the website.
AngelOne demat account charges
AngleOne charges Rs 20 + Tax per month for Non-BSDA Clients. Account opening charge with Angel One is ‘zero’. Angelone offers free equity delivery to your account. The different charges involved in trading in the stock market includes - securities transaction tax (STT), Goods and service tax (GST), stamp duty, transaction charges, SEBI turnover charges, depository participant (DP) charges, and brokerage fees.
As a brokerage charge, Angel One charges zero for equity delivery trades and Rs. 20 per executed order or 0.25% (whichever is lower) for equity intraday trade,currency, commodity futures trade, and equity, currency, commodity options trade.
Upstox demat account charges
Upstox charges Rs 177 as annual maintenance charges applicable as per offer/plan which is non refundable. It charges Rs 88.50 as quarterly maintenance charges.
Groww demat account charges
There is no account opening charge and AMC in Groww. It charges Rs 20 or 0.05%per order whichever is lower.
ICICI Direct demat account charges
There is no charge for opening a demat account. The bank charges Rs. 700 (waived for ICICIdirect customers for the first year) and Rs. 300 for ICICIdirect Neo customers from first year onwards.
Account transaction charges: Buy – Nil for transactions done at ICICIdirect platform
Sell - 0.04% of the value of securities (Minimum Rs. 30 and maximum Rs. 25,000).
SBI Securities demat account charges
SBI Securities charges account maintenance charge individual Rs 750/- (Rs 500/- for e-statement). It charges Rs 850 as account opening charges.
HDFC Securities demat account charges
HDFC Securities offers different types of demat account, and all these vary when it comes to services and charges. Annual maintenance charge from 2nd year onwards will range between Rs 250 to Rs 750 depending on the account. Demat account maintenance charge is waived for the 1st year.
