Definition: Economic flow (2024)

SNA

Economic flows reflect the creation, transformation, exchange, transfer or extinction of economic value; they involve changes in the volume, composition, or value of an institutional unit's assets and liabilities. This definition is used both in SNA 1993 and in SNA 2008.Flows measure changes in economic value over a period of time.Mirroring the diversity of the economy, economic flows have specific natures as wages, taxes, interest, capital flows, etc., that record the ways in which a unit’s assets and liabilities are changed.Economic flows consist of transactions and other flows (SNA 2008, § 3.2, 3.6 and 3.7). http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/ramon/statmanuals/files/SNA2008.pdf System of National Accounts (SNA) 1993
