Billionaire Romances have a HUGE following of avid and loyal fans. Not only will they purchase a whole series in one buying session, but they will consistently look for other Billionaire authors to follow.

What ARE Billionaire Romances?
They are a micro niche within the overall romance category labeled “Contemporary.” And there is NO mistaking that these are contemporary romances because Billionaires haven’t been around for all that long.
Their popularity is fueled by the fact that they fit into a range of sub-categories from “clean reading” and “Christian” to … “erotica.” In between you will find all sorts of heat levels from mild to scorching.
Billionaire romances also cross-over into mysteries, thrillers, cowboy-westerns, International (princes, princesses and sheiks).
And yes, thank goodness there are some female billionaires in the bunch.
I am going to make a confession. Normally I read heavy hitting thrillers or mysteries. I am a lover of Sci Fi and dystopian sagas, and I am a diehard fan of Nora Roberts and her romance series as well as her Eve Dallas detective series (about to hit book #51. BUT, when I am looking for a really quick read, you guessed it … I gravitate to the Billionaires, especially the FEMALE billionaires. I am one of those fans who would snap up almost any new female billionaire series.
The bottom line is … there are Billionaire Romances for virtually any reader preference.
The easiest way to find Billionaire Romances is to click into the Kindle Books search box and search for “billionaire romances.” Sometimes you will get a spotty list mixed with all sorts of other stuff, and other times you will actually land in the Billionaire’s Micro Niche list. What can I say … Amazon doesn’t have the best or most consistent search engine!

Why Are Billionaire Romances So Popular?
To start out with, they are ROMANCES … the top selling category on Amazon.
And they target a huge set of fantasies (often unspoken even to oneself). The desire to hobnob with rich guys and gals. The possibility that you too might one day marry a billionaire, and the ordinary (often very poor) girl or guy lucking out and marrying the prince princess, sheik or … Billionaire.
The fact that Harry and Megan have PROVED that this can actually happen is just fuel for this fantasy’s flames.
In addition to the regular rounds of “romance angst” you can add the major trust question — is this guy or gal a gold digger? Lots of room for some great misunderstandings and conflicted romance signals here!
Is This A Good Micro Niche For Writers Just Starting Out? OR, For Writers Wanting To Expand Their Audience?
Yes, and YES.
The fact is, there is a HUGE audience here. Readers who love billionaire romances are always looking for new favorite authors. Once you hook a reader, they become loyal followers pre-ordering as soon as a new book is available.
Even though you have competition … it pales in comparison to the competition in a large category such as “contemporary” or “historical.”
Focusing on a micro niche gives you a better chance of being found and noticed.
Another reason for considering this particular micro niche is the fact that you have a huge range of possibilities … from mild to scorching hot, from a focus that is strictly on the billionaire’s riches to cross overs into other categories.
Unlike some of the other romance micro niches, the ONLY requirement is a rich gal or guy. The rest of it is open to YOUR imagination.
How To Market
From a savvy marketing point of view, my advice for entering a new micro niche and building an audience is to think in terms of a series or at a minimum–a trilogy. This advice is based on working with hundreds of authors helping them market their books. I’ve see first hand what works and what doesn’t.
You can’t BUILD an audience by publishing one book and then not publishing again for another six months or a year. Nora Roberts didn’t sell 500 MILLION books by publishing once a year. *This is the “in print” number and does not count all the Kindle or other e-books sold.
Your best bet is to develop an overall roadmap for your series (how will it work, how will you transition from one book to another).
After you have a road map, write the first two or three books before you publish book number one.
There are two reasons for this. First you will figure out the kinks, back story, series progression and stopping points before they cause you problems. Second … by publishing books one to three spaced out a week or two weeks apart you will build momentum.
While you are writing your three books, you should be spending part of your time developing your “writer’s platform” which should consist of a website, a newsletter list and two or three social media networks.
What Does J.S. Scott Do To Sell So Many Billionaire Books?
J.S. Scott is consistently in the Top 20 list of Romance writers. She focuses on Billionaire and Paranormal Romances. She has several ongoing Billionaire series, including the Billionaire’s Obsession series and the Sinclairs (a family of billionaires).
Read her books and learn from a MASTER marketer. You will see that she is always setting up at least the next book, if not the next two books WITHIN the current book.
When you finish a J.S. Scott book, there is always an excerpt from the next book or from one of her cross-over series books.
Scott’s Techniques WORK.
Personally I think she is quite heavy handed at this, BUT I don’t sell millions of books, so don’t listen to me … read and LEARN from what she does.
My suggestion is to purchase at least one of Scott’s series (first 4 books at a minimum) and:
- Read though for the entertainment value. When you finish a book, make some notes on what you liked and what you didn’t like.
- Then go through the book again. This time highlight and make notes on the regular novel writing goodies — setting, character development, dialogue and plot.
- Finally go through the book a third time. This time look for her marketing tactics. How does she introduce the character(s) for her next book, WITHIN the current book? What information does she have at the front of the book, at the back of the book. Look at the books description and how it sells.
