It is a robo-advisor that allows you to take advantage of actively managed investing strategies typically reserved for high-net-worth individuals and institutional investors. The $500 minimum account balance for both retirement and non-retirement accounts makes it a relatively affordable option for new and seasoned investors alike.

Our editor’s take

Titan Invest is a good choice for those seeking the best of both worlds in wealth management. It combines the efficiency and convenience of a robo-advisor with the personalized touch of human advisors. We like that all users can get involved with real estate and venture capital investing without needing a lot of money to start.

We don’t think this is the best robo-advisor if you want to invest in crypto since it comes with extra fees and Titan’s platform cannot accommodate crypto transfers. Additionally, you will only be able to invest in Bitcoin and Ethereum with Titan.

Titan Invest services

Titan offers a few different services depending on your investment and savings goals. Here are the most popular choices available:

Long-term investing

You can choose between a DIY investment approach with automated stock and bond ETFs and no advisory fees, or managed investments with Titan’s in-house team handling your portfolio.

Smart Cash

This service automatically moves your money between Cash Reserve and Treasury Money Market Funds on Titan and is optimized based on your personal tax situation. This allows users to earn up to 5.30% at the time of publishing.

Additionally, this service does not charge advisory fees, but there can be underlying expense ratios.

Retirement planning

In addition to managing your current investments, Titan also offers retirement planning services. While you will pay a tiered AUM (assets under management) fee, you will not have to pay an advisory fee for stocks and bonds.

Alternative investments

TextInvestors can choose to invest in alternative options such as real estate, crypto and venture capital. These third-party offerings have low minimums, so the everyday investor can add them to their portfolio.

Titan Invest fees

There are some services available that do not charge advisory fees, including the Automated Stocks and Automated Bonds options. For all other services, the Titan advisory fee ranges from 0.70% to 0.90% AUM depending on how much money you have invested. Expect to pay the following fees:

  • For account totals of $500 to $24,999: 0.90% AUM
  • For account totals of $25,000 to $99,999: 0.80% AUM
  • For account totals of $100,000+: 0.90% AUM

Your fee will be based on your combined investment total, so if you have $5,000 in a Roth IRA and $20,000 in an Individual account, you will meet the threshold for the 0.80% AUM.

While Titan does not charge any trading fees, its third-party crypto execution provider, Apex Crypto LLC, charges a spread of up to 0.15% on each transaction.

How to set up an account with Titan Invest

To set up an account with Titan, you will first need to create an account with Apex Clearing Corporation, which is a member of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). FINRA helps protect American investors from dishonest brokers. You must be at least 18 years old.

You will then need to provide the following information to complete your Titan account:

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security number
  • Home address
  • Phone number

How does Titan Invest compare?

While Titan Invest isn’t the cheapest of robo-advisors out there (its minimum investment requirement and management fees are pricier than competitors like Betterment, SoFi and Fidelity), it is still affordable for most investors and may appeal to those seeking a more humanized approach to investing.

For example, Betterment has a passive automated style relying strictly on tech, whereas Titan uses an active strategy fueled by humans using the latest technology.

Here are some other ways that Titan Invest stacks up against this particular competitor:

Titan InvestBetterment
Available assets ETFs, real estate, venture capital, credit, crypto ETFs, crypto
Minimum investment $500 $10
Fees 0.70% to 0.90% AUM $4 per month or 0.25% AUM, depending on your account balance

Titan Invest FAQ

What is Titan Invest?

Titan Invest is a robo-advisor that aims to provide a Wall Street-like investment experience to millennials and retail investors. It offers both retirement and non-retirement investing options with a minimum investment of $500.

Does Titan Invest offer socially responsible investing?

Titan Invest does not explicitly mention if it offers socially responsible investing (SRI) on its platform. It does say, “One choice for investing in ESG [environmental, social and governance] is to buy into a fund that has a high ESG rating by a reputable source.”

Is Titan Invest insured by FDIC or SIPC?

Since FDIC protection is only offered to banks, only funds enrolled in Titan’s Cash Sweep program are eligible for this insurance. For other accounts, Titan is a member of SIPC, and your brokerage accounts will be covered up to $500,000.

I invested a significant amount of money in Titan three years ago (early 2021). Since then I have steadily lost more than 25% of my investment in their Opportunities Fund. At the end of November 2023, my loss was over 30%, so December 2023 was a good month. I seriously doubt this money manager can do any better than an index ETF such as SPY (large cap and/or QQQ (tech). They have not published their recent returns on their website so it is difficult to see how they have performed in the last three years. Putting it very plainly, they have not performed positively for the last three years. You can link your account to your checking account and easily move money back and forth.

They do not communicate well with clients (at least they have never answered any of my questions regarding their performance). If you want to invest your funds in a much less expensive manner, open an account at Fidelity or Schwab or any reputable brokerage and buy an index ETF that will give you overall market sector returns. No minimum amount is required and it is very easy to open an account. They also answer their phones 24/7 if you have a question.

Titan investment qualifies as foreign people according to the type of Visa. However they do not know the categories of visas that allow you to have an investment account. It seems to me that they don’t know their own Business. Very sad!
