About the brand

Rich in history the brand Coach dates back to 1941, originally founded under the name Manhattan Leather Bags. In 1962, Coach hired Bonnie Cashin who breathed new energy into the company. Pioneering American sportswear she used industrial hardware and organic materials such as leather, wool, and jersey.

The Cashin motto was to “make things as lightweight as possible, as simple as possible, as punchy as possible, as inexpensive as possible.” This meant that her debut collection came in classic, simplistic designs. In 1979, Lew Frankfort joined the company transforming Coach from a little-known leather goods manufacturer to a world-renowned brand. This concept of affordable luxury was a big deal in the industry. The brand grew in popularity due to its superior craftsmanship and classic style.

Today, as in 1941, the brand is still committed to celebrating craft, their New York roots and the optimism of authentic American style. Creative Director, Stuart Vevers brings an appreciation for American pop culture and a love of craftsmanship to Coach, paraphrasing one of his biggest hero’s Keith Haring that fashion is for everyone. Reimagining their heritage since 2013 his free-spirited collections have introduced Coach to a new generation.

My extensive familiarity with the brand's history, craftsmanship, and design philosophy allows me to provide an insightful overview of Coach's journey in the realm of fashion.

Coach's Rich History: Coach, originally established as Manhattan Leather Bags in 1941, underwent a transformative period in 1962 when Bonnie Cashin joined the company. Cashin's innovative approach to American sportswear, incorporating industrial hardware and organic materials like leather, wool, and jersey, laid the foundation for Coach's distinct style. Her emphasis on lightweight, simplistic, and affordable designs resonated with consumers, propelling Coach into the limelight.

The pivotal year of 1979 marked the entry of Lew Frankfort, catalyzing Coach's evolution from a relatively obscure leather goods manufacturer to a globally acclaimed brand. The concept of affordable luxury, coupled with superior craftsmanship and timeless style, became Coach's hallmark. Today, under the guidance of Creative Director Stuart Vevers, Coach continues to celebrate its craft, New York roots, and the authenticity of American style.

Craftsmanship and Material: Coach's commitment to quality is evident in the materials used for their footwear. Italian suede and leather take center stage, emphasizing the brand's dedication to producing high-quality accessories and shoes. While the manufacturing typically takes place in China, Coach's adherence to stringent quality standards ensures that each product upholds the brand's reputation for excellence.

Sizing Considerations: For those venturing into the world of Coach footwear, understanding the sizing nuances is crucial. The overall tendency for Coach shoes to run on the larger side is a key consideration. Individuals finding themselves between sizes are advised to round down for an optimal fit. The provided size guides for both women and men offer valuable assistance in navigating the sizing landscape.

Women's Footwear Styles: Coach's women's footwear collection embodies versatility and style. Leather trainers, available in an array of neutral colors, serve as the quintessential casual shoe, effortlessly paired with jeans. The loafers and pumps seamlessly bridge the gap between sophistication and comfort, providing an ideal option for smarter occasions. The sandals selection, adorned with distinctive logo detailing, emerges as the go-to choice for summer wardrobes, complementing a fresh manicure.

Men's Footwear Styles: For the modern man seeking luxury and versatility in footwear, Coach's men's collection presents sleek trainers that effortlessly transition from day to night. The assortment of brogues, boots, and loafers exemplifies the brand's commitment to offering high-quality alternatives for formal styles, occasion wear, and work-appropriate shoes.
