Carnivore Trading Review 2023 | Everything You Need To Know (2024)

ShareTweetShareShareEmail

Carnivore Trading is a stock pick subscription service, brought to you by the authors of Lions of Wall Street (2022). Combining the expertise of former Wall Street Professionals with cutting-edge technology, Carnivore Trading aims to deliver both regular people (i.e. retail investors) and institutional investors 100% returns every year.

That’s a rather impressive claim, so read on for our comprehensive Carnivore Trading review to see how it measures up.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Daily market updates (pre-market and mid-day updates)
  • Compatible with any trading platform
  • Flat-rate fee (no upselling)
  • Independence (you manage your own money and trades)

Cons

  • Traders are anonymous
  • Not a lot of in-depth research provided

What Is Carnivore Trading?

Carnivore Trading is aimed at retail investors of all experience levels, especially people who are newer to the stock market and/or who want their decisions made for them.

This makes it an appealing service for beginners since it takes very little stock market and trading experience to make the kinds of trades that they recommend.

For the most part, Carnivore Trading focuses on short-term momentum plays, offering alerts and trade recommendations throughout each day the market is open. It is important to note that they never manage your money directly. You simply use the broker of your choice to make the recommended trades that you want to make. You maintain total control over your money and your trades.

The trading service is quite straightforward and includes live updates of trades made by its three traders: Dutch, Swamp Donkey, and Trader Z. It would appear that Trader Z is the main leader of the service and protégé of Dutch, who claims to have two decades of Wall Street experience.

You may or may not have an issue with mirroring trades made by anonymous traders. Perhaps you respect their desire to be anonymous, or perhaps it makes you uneasy. You’ll have to follow your gut on that one.

Now let’s take a look at some of Carnivore Trading’s key features.

Here are some of the features offered by Carnivore:

  • Daily Market Insights
  • Strategy Recommendations
  • Charts/visuals
  • Market Forecasts
  • Carnivore Trading Performance

For the Apex Predator subscribers, you also get the following:

  • Bi-weekly Zoom call access with the traders
  • Direct email access
  • “Many other concierge-level perks” (from their site)

Free Trial

Carnivore does not have a truly free service, but they do offer a 14-day free trial. Two weeks is a good amount of time to get a feel for their service and see if you can make some money, so it’s nice that they offer this.

Paid Services

Carnivore Trading offers two paid services: their Regular Plan and Apex Predator. Note that there is no free trial option for the Apex Predator service.

The Regular Plan costs $250/month, though you can get two months free if you opt for an annual subscription. If that feels expensive to you, they argue that the service they provide “is worth $25,000/month to the big hedge funds.”

They also now offer the Apex Predator service, which is aimed more so at institutional investors or retail traders with a sizeable budget, as it costs $1,500/month and comes with many additional perks.

Carnivore Trading may or may not be right for you. After all, there are many stock pick subscriptions out there, many of which are reviewed at ModestMoney.com.

One aspect that might make readers hesitate is the fact that Carnivore Trading is a new service. As such, it hasn’t had the time to build up a long track record. It has also not been reviewed or publicized on a wide scale and so it lacks brand name recognition.

Another issue is that Carnivore Trading’s standard subscription just won’t cut it for institutional traders. The new program, “Apex Predator,” however, targets managers of mutual funds and hedge funds, financial advisors, RIAs, and other kinds of institutional investors.

At $1,500/month, the Apex Predator service is by no means cheap. That said, it’s reasonable since it’s targeted at institutional investors who are handling large portfolios.

At $250/month, the Regular Plan is a relatively affordable option for many retail traders, especially if you can make the kinds of returns that Carnivore claims.

Since Carnivore Trading is more focused on providing frequent recommendations than extensive research and analysis, it may be best paired with a comprehensive trading software such as Edgewonk, which allows traders to track their progress and success over various time frames.

Carnivore Trading is a great pick for people who want stock picks without needing a lot of research and explanation presented. It provides more frequent recommendations than competing services (such as the Motley Fool).
