Visa Policy for Cambodia
The Cambodian visa policy defines which foreign travelers need a visa to visit Cambodia and which visas are required in each situation. The purpose of travel and the nationality of the visitor affect the entry requirements.
The majority of travelers require a Cambodia visa to enter the country — less than 10 nationalities are exempt from visa requirements for short visits.
There are a number of different types of visa for Cambodia depending on purpose and duration of the intended stay in the country.
Visitors from around 220 different countries can apply online for an electronic visa (eVisa) for Cambodia. This involves completing a simple form via the internet.
The Cambodia eVisa can be used to visit the country as a tourist and allows the holder to spend up to 30 days in the Southeast Asian nation.
Foreign nationals from a small number of countries cannot obtain an eVisa but can apply for a visa on arrival in Cambodia, although this involves waiting in a queue at the border
Less than 10 nationalities must apply for a consular visa in person at a Cambodian overseas diplomatic mission (e.g. an embassy) for any kind of visit. This includes short-term stays for the purpose of tourism.
All travelers, regardless of nationality, require a type of long-term consular visa or permit in order to spend more than 30 days in Cambodia or to relocate and/or work in the country. These can only be obtained from a Royal Cambodian Embassy.
See below an in-depth guide to Cambodia’s rules and regulations for visa requirements and travel.
Tourist Visa Policy for Cambodia
In order to visit the country for the purpose of tourism, most foreign visitors require a Cambodia tourist visa. There are different visa options depending on the nationality of the traveler.
The eVisa for Cambodia functions as a tourist visa for eligible applicants. It permits the holder to stay in the country for a short period for the express purpose of tourism. Available via an online application, this electronic visa eliminates the need to go to a Cambodian embassy to apply in person.
Tourists from a few of the countries who are not eligible for the eVisa may instead acquire a Cambodian visa on arrival. This visa option can function as a business visa or a tourist visa, depending on the purpose of the intended stay.
Nationals of a select few countries must obtain a tourist visa from a Royal Cambodian Embassy in order to visit the country.
All tourist visas for Cambodia allow the foreign national to remain in the country for a maximum of 30 days unless the traveler requests an extension.
