Call Hinjewadi by official name ‘Hinjawadi’: Villagers | Pune News - Times of India (2024)

PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: Residents of Hinjewadi villagers have once again pushed their demand to change the name to ‘Hinjawadi’.
Seeking the name change as per the government resolution, the villagers have submitted a memorandum to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) on January 30.
Grampanchayat member Nagesh Sakhare said, “Hinjawadi village is well known due to the Rajiv Gandhi IT park here.

Many people from the state and country work in the IT companies operating from the IT park. They call it Hinjewadi, which is wrong.
Also, many government organizations incorrectly spell to the village name. As a result, the villagers complained to the state government and demanded that the official name be used. So a government resolution was issued, spelling the official name of the village as ‘Hinjawadi’.”

He added that villagers in the past had conducted an agitation in this regard informing government organizations, private offices and establishments in the village and most of them now use the official name.
“We found that some organizations are still spelling the village’s name incorrectly. The advertisem*nt boards for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Metro route being developed by the PMRDA was spelt ‘Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar’. So we met PMRDA officials and submitted a memorandum that the village’s name be spelt correctly,” he said.

As an expert with a deep understanding of regional nomenclature and government resolutions, I want to shed light on the demand for changing the name of Hinjewadi village to 'Hinjawadi'. This issue has been raised by the residents, and it revolves around the official recognition of the village name according to a government resolution.

The crux of the matter lies in the prominence of Hinjawadi village, particularly due to the Rajiv Gandhi IT park situated there. This IT park attracts a significant workforce from both the state and the country, contributing to its recognition on a broader scale. The villagers argue that the commonly used name, 'Hinjewadi,' is incorrect and has led to misrepresentation in various contexts, including by government organizations.

Evidence supporting this claim includes a memorandum submitted to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) on January 30. Nagesh Sakhare, a Grampanchayat member, highlighted the historical context of the issue. Villagers had previously conducted an agitation, resulting in a government resolution that officially spells the village name as 'Hinjawadi.' Many organizations have since corrected the usage, but some continue to use the incorrect name.

An example cited is the advertisem*nt boards for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Metro route developed by PMRDA, which erroneously spelled the name as 'Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar.' In response, the villagers met with PMRDA officials, urging the correct spelling of the village's name.

This demonstrates a concerted effort by the residents to rectify the naming discrepancy, emphasizing the importance of accurate representation in official documents, advertisem*nts, and public discourse. It also underscores the significance of government resolutions in shaping and standardizing regional nomenclature.
