Building a House as a Single Home Buyer | Move Homes (1)

There is a common misconception that you need to be in a relationship to build a home in Perth. But that’s not true. In fact, Move Homes has helped many single women and men build their home!

We have answered some of the most common questions that single home buyers ask us. But if you have a question that isn’t below, you can send us an email and one of our team members will get back to you with an answer because everyone’s circ*mstances are different.

Plus if you’re a single parent, the Family Home Guarantee allows you to build a home with just a 2% deposit.

Can I afford to build on a single income?

Regardless of whether you’re single or in a couple, your ability to build depends on your financial capacity. So that includes your sole income, as well as any debts or children you have. But you don’t need two income streams to build. In fact, we are having more single people reach out to us who want to get out of rental homes. But while there are a lot of variables to consider, if you’re earning over $50,000 you could afford to build.

How can I save a deposit on a single income?

Whether you’re on a single or double income, saving for a deposit can be hard work. In fact, we’ve written a blog post called 5 Tips to Save Money because it’s one of the top issues home buyers face. But here are two extra hints for you: a deposit to build a new home is less than an established home, and there are grants and schemes to help.

Firstly, a deposit to build a new home is less than an established home. Instead of the standard 20% home deposit, there are banks that will lend with only a 5% deposit if you are building.

Secondly, there are incentives to help people who either have a small deposit or are on low-middle incomes. This includes the First Home Loan Deposit Scheme for people with a 5% deposit and Keystart that requires only a 2% deposit.

Do you have home designs for single people?

Yes, we have designs that are suitable for single home buyers! While you can buy any homes in our range, 3 bedroom homes are very popular for single home buyers as they are easier to maintain and cheaper. In fact, The Navarino has been one of our most popular. Plus, you can take a home design you like and modify to suit your needs (perhaps a huge Master Suite?).

Can my house have a turnkey finish?

It sure can! For people not familiar, a turnkey finish means that your home is finished for you to move in (so all you need to do is “turn the key”). For example, internal painting and rear landscaping are already done for you. This is a popular option for home buyers who either aren’t DIY-handy or don’t want the hassle of organising other items.

Where can I build a new home?

We build single storey homes all over Perth! This includes masterplanned estates and infill blocks closer to the city. If you’re looking for ideas, check out some locations in Perth’s northern suburbs or the southern suburbs.
