Black Desert: How To Get A Horse (2024)

Here are the steps that need to be followed in order to get a horse in Black Desert.

Black Desert: How To Get A Horse (1)

Like many MMORPGs, Black Desert Online has a mount system to allow players to travel to different locations. Horses are the primary methods of transportation that allow players to ride across Black Desert's expansive open world. Horses not only provide a faster means of travel than simply running to destinations, but also a means of strategy, as horses can have different colors and tiers, which can affect their speed.

At the start of their adventure, players will be rewarded with a donkey mount, which is not only slow but now as impressive as riding a horse. Beginner players and newcomers will want to ensure that a horse is one of the first things they procure when entering the world of Black Desert Online. This helpful guide will describe exactly how to get a horse in Black Desert.

Buying

Black Desert: How To Get A Horse (2)

The quickest and most efficient way to get a horse is to locate a Stable Keeper in a city, where players can buy a Tier One horse for 15,000 silver. These horses only come in two basic colors: brown or gray, dependent on which emblem players pick from the Stable Keeper. These Tier 1 have a low base speed of 95%, but these horses can be trained to reach higher tiers and increase their stats with some patience and training in Life Skill.

Players can also purchase horses from the Horse Market, accessible at any Stable Keeper. Here, players can view Tier 1 through to Tier 9 horses that other players have listed, as well as other fantastical mounts. The price of the horses is automatically based on their level, skill, tier, and the horses' other stats.

Renting

If players have an ample amount of silver they wish to spend, they could consider renting another player's horse. It is quite an expensive method for a temporary mount, but if players have the money to spend, why not?

They must first go to a Stable Keeper NPC, click the rent option, and then "Rental List." From there, players can search through the many horses listed, ranging from Tier 1 to Tier 8, and filter it to suit their budget. Rental mounts can last for up to a week, and these horses can still gain EXP, but it is locked to the original owner's equipment and cannot be altered.

Taming

Black Desert: How To Get A Horse (4)

Players have the chance to tame wild horses once they reach level 20, with the potential to get a horse with base speeds between 104% and 109% and up to Tier 5 horses can be captured in the wild. However, the horse taming process is not as easy as it sounds.

  1. First, players must buy plenty of lassos from the Stable Keeper NPC. Players can craft Lumps of Raw Sugar from Raw Sugar and Mineral Water to feed the horse with.
  2. They will have to then traverse through wild fields searching for wild horses, which is a rare encounter in itself.
  3. Aim the lasso at a horse for a 50% chance to begin the taming process. Once the rope hits the horse, ti should stand on its hind legs, triggering the mini-game process.
  4. Players must hit the Space Bar rapidly to fill the meter and ensure it is on the "WIN" side of the bar. Winning these mini-games allows the player to get steadily closer to the horse until it stands on its hind legs. Once this happens, the player will engage in another meter mini-game.
  5. Once they are close to the horse, players should use the Lumps of Raw Sugar they crafted to feed the horse to increase the likelihood of success.
  6. Now they can mount the horse. If the horse bucks them off, they will have to begin the process again. If they are successful, they will need to ride the horse to a Stable Keeper to register it.

Completing these mini-games does not guarantee the player will successfully tame the horse, hence the extra lassos and food incase the first several attempts fail.

Breeding

If players want to get a mount the old-fashioned way, they can try the mount breeding system in Black Desert, which has one of the more complex mechanics in the game. All they need is to be in possession of a male and a female horse, provided they both have enough breeding points.

The breeding process can take up to three hours. After that, they'll gain a new horse. It will begin with a single skill, with its gender randomly selected. This can be a good money-making method. But players should bear in mind that each female horse, a mare, can only birth a limited number of horses.

Black Desert Online is available to play on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
