27 Sep 2023 used my starling card (similar to Monzo or revolut) at a kutxabank atm and was not charged a fee. Could select to pay in euros.

This article needs serious updating since a lot of the banks mentioned now charge for ATM withdrawals using foreign debit cards instead of reading the comments to figure out what is the latest. Banca March is NOT free, I tried withdrawing Є500 but there is Є3.80 commission (so you can view this as the ATM fee charge) since it is not using the current exchange rate at time of withdrawal. Same thing with Unica Banco (see earlier comment I made). Bankiter charges Є4 and ING wont accept my Citibank card.

Única banco doesn't charge but fee and comission are built in. It automatically converts and doesn't give you the option to charge it in €.

Thanks for this useful post - we've been staying in Arenys de Mar and Santa Susanna in the coastal Maresme county north of Barcelona. The "good banks" (those with no fees) only seem to have a presence in the county capital (Mataró) or Barcelona city itself. We settled for a Sabadell cash withdrawal on our Starling account, which has a €1.80 fee and it was easy to accept the transaction in Euro so we got the Starling exchange rate. Upshot was we got €100 for £90. BBVA wanted a fee of €7, Santander €4, Bankinter €3.95 and the awful Euronet machine £3.99 and an exchange rate of almost 1:1.

Ibercaja in Denia €300 on AmEx: the ATM asked to confirm a charge of €1.40 to the card issuer.

Corralejo: ING Cashzone ATM. €3.95 fee with Revolut card. LaCaxia (Caxiabank) wanted €7! There is a Banco Sabadell nearby but I suspect it will charge too. I guess the days of free ATM withdrawals are almost over.

Just took out 250 euros on monza card from ING standalone machine in Ibiza. Gave me a choice of rubbish exchange rate of 1.03 euros to GBP or 3.95 fee. Went for the fee as lots cheaper with exchange rate of 1.14-1.15.

Withdrew 50€ with German VISA card from Deutsche Bank ATM in Playa del Inglés (Gran Canaria) earlier today. It did not ask me to confirm any fees.

In Madrid, travelling from London. I wanted to use barclaycard rewards card to withdraw 100 euros. This card does not charge withdrawal fees abroad. Unicaja bank ATM lets you know that they will charge barclays bank €0.75 - not you. If not using a barclaycard rewards card, check if your card charges withdrawal fees or not.

Cinkciarz.pl (Conotoxia) Visa Debit no fees at Unicaja Banco ATM (10€ withdrawal). Euronet and BBVA ~3€ fee for 20€ withdrawal so I've cancelled.

Caixa in Vigo just asked €7 for a €100 withdrawal. A pity coz Caixa was so much my go-to bank that I ran a lot of funds through them when I had Spanish residency.

In Gran Canaria: Euronet, Santander and Cashzone all of them charging 3.95E fee on Monzo card when withdrawing in Euro.

I took out 500 x 2 "Euros from Cajero Euro Automatic" in Torreviejatoday. My card was in Euro and my money in euro. However, this bank changed my euro first to SEK and then Back to Euro. Total fees 160 Euro to take out 1000 euro. It is clearly a scam attempt.

Went to Kutxabank atm yesterday and withdrew 500 Euro with my Capital One no fee bank card. Although it did not say on the atm, I was charged a withdrawal fee and what shout have been 509 dollars was 523! Don't make the same mistake I did.

I was using Deutsche Bank it was great no fees good rate but it seems like they remove all the locationd and ATMs last month

I used a Caixa bank yesterday was charged 7 euros fee.. i used my Wise card, the same fee was quoted for Revolut and Monzo.. the same ATM charged me 2 euros in 2021... what the hell is going on!!!!

Sabadell in Lanzarote was free to use with a Dutch ING card.

Santander ATM charged: 7 EURO fee, PLUS 6% premium on exchange rate from dollars to euros. They once were a partner with Bank of America with no fee or premium on exchange rate. Not the case in probably many years. NEVER again will I go near Santander.

The Unicaja bank machine on Diagonal in Barcelona ate my card, and when I went back the next day, they refused to give it back to me. I had to order a new card from my bank Canada... what a nightmare!

I just withdrew money from Caja Rural and they charged for 300€ (limited) a 1.95€ fee
Then I tried another bank, the Unicaja and I could withdraw 500€ (so no limitations) and NO FEE!!!

Because of suggestions here, I went to a nearby IberCaja to withdraw money. For 500 euros, I was charged 3.16 euros. My bank will pick up this charge. I had been dismayed at some of the other banks' rates--big charges and lousy exchange rates so I was happy to find this thread. Gracias.

Bankinter charged a flat 4€ on 250€ withdrawal using Barclaycard Platinum MasterCard (Free ATM Cash Withdrawals until August 2022).

Saba fell in Malaga just charged €1.80 for €110 withdrawal (Revolut card)

In Madrid Airport, I was charged 5Euro fee from ATM. I checked all ATMS and they were all charging this much. Today I withdrew from BBVA in Tenerife because in Colombia it is no fee but here in Canary Islands I was charged a 7Euro fee for withdrawing.

Santander in Santa Ponsa, Mallorca wanted €7 for €110 withdrawal. Went a few hundred yards/metres along to Bancha March and completely free (0.5% fx rate fee from card issuer as expected) using my Currensea MasterCard debit card.

Just tried Santander in sitges with a Revolut card and the cash machine wanted to charge 7 Euros so I cancelled. Went to Banka March machine and no charge.

Me again. I’m now in Barcelona an August 21, 2021. CaixaBank Business charges €5! I wonder if there’s a difference between a Business branch or regular one. I will find out.

In Valencia August 2018, Santander wanted €7 to withdraw using my Revolut card. Used this page and tried IberCaja instead and they charged €0.75 which appears not to have been passed on by Revolut.

I was in Madrid August 2021 and used the ATM with Santander. I was charged €7. After reading this article I used iberCaja I was charged €O and they gave me the option of the cash denomination. Instead of two €50 bills I got five €20. This article is super useful. Thanks!

Just wanted to share my experience. Withdrew money yesterday in Palma, Mallorca from Interbank and they took 1.87€ for 40€ withdrawal. So it’s not for free! But definitely better than Santander.

Used my UK Santander card at ATM Santander and they charged me €9. Is this right .

In Burgos. Santander indeed 7 euros. I tried IBERCAJA. It said: 'Ibercaja will charge card issuer 0.68 euros. Your bank will determine whether this charge will pass onto you'. So far it has not (Halifax Clarity MC)

Went to Ibercaja ATM near Sevilla Metro Madrid last week, drew €100 with Visa card, screen said possible charge of €1,11 from my bank otherwise no other charges!

Ibercaja are now charging 1.75 euros & Caja Rural 1.5 euros for machine use. I do not think there are any major bank free use machines left in Spain

Banca Marcha also wants now 2 Euro fee as well as Cajamar Cala Rutal. Only one I found so far that still doesn’t charge you is Unicaja, ING and Deutsche Bank Espana.

Tried to withdraw 180 euros from Santander in Las Palmas today, and the fee was 7 euro.

At the establishment of the Euro, did the E.C.B. not mandate that there would be no fees for withdrawals in Euro from regulated Banks within the E.U.? Are the currency conversion rates controlled at regulated banks in E.U.?
I use Irish debit cards in Unicaja Bank in Nerja ( Malaga ) where there are no fees to date.
If using non E.U. bank cards, the wise thing to seems to be to never direct the ATM to convert the currency but to allow your own bank make the conversion.

The above info is not accurate. I've traveled in 20+ cities in Spain in 2020 with a US debit card, and the only free ATMs I have found are:
* Bankinter
* Unicaja
* Eurocaja Rural

Caixabank in Albir, near Benidorm . Charge €2 fee today.
With no option of euros. Went auto GBP.
Second transaction I've done now. If won't happen again
I will be looking at a Transferwise account, in the future.

Bankinter does not charge for withdrawing cash from there ATMs.

BBVA near Barcelona wanted to charge €6 fee to retrieve €200 from Malaysian Debit Card. I cancelled and will give feedback here when I find a better deal.

CaixaBank charged me €2 on top in Benidorm January 2020. There also probably the inly bank you feel your giving your card to a supercomputer than an ATM!

Caixa Bank charged me a 5 euro fee in Madrid when I was there a month ago. I was upset because I found a Sabadell atm with a 3.5 euro fee and better exchange rate later

CaixaBank Charged me 5.00 euro for a 200 euro withdrawal but I was not paying attention & chose their exchange rate margin which was 8.4% ( ouch ! ) so pay attention when using their machines

In Palma, Mallorca. Just used s stand alone ATM of Banca March. No fee for using my UK credit card to withdraw money. Any UK folks should get a Halifax Clarity credit card, put credit ON it, then use to take cash out of ATMs worldwide. Best exchange rate and no fee.

Caixa Bank charged eur 2 in suburban seville, which is OK by me.

I wish I knew what part of Spain everyone else is in, but all four bank in this Catalan town where I live charge a flat fee ranging from 5-7 euros each time, plus an inflated exchange rate. Yesterday, I went to withdraw 400 euros from my American bank (MasterCard) and at Santander, they now charge 7 euros just for the transaction plus a higher exchange rate than current international rates and would have charged me $485 for my 400 euro withdrawal. It's been better with the stronger dollar but I also know Spanish banks are hiking up their fees possibly due to higher government-set bank costs. Where are the fee-less ATM?

Using UK master card 5 years , never charged in Spain/ Canaries until today....
Santander wanted €7.....Bankia about 2 and Caixa which was always free , similarly.
Can confirm Ibercaja was free ! So used in Torremolinos.

In Fuerteventura just used a standalone March Bank atm fee free.

Just tried a BBVA bank atm in Barcelona... 6 euro fee! Completely ridiculous, but I guess some people actually use it.

I also tried caxia bank and it was going to charge a fee. The only ATM's I found to be free were Unicaja and Cajasur.

I've noticed that caixa bank actually has a 5 euro withdrawal fee. But kuxtabank indeed is no-fee.
