Came for a holiday vacation between Christmas and New Years. The lack of parking and public transportation is mind boggling for a city that boasts over 12 million visitors annually. The shops downtown close at 5 pm which is difficult to comprehend in a city that thrives on tourism. The utter lack of public restrooms is ridiculous. There is a lack of indoor activities. I am looking forward to returning home once this week is over. I would vote this the most frustrating city to visit and I have no desire to return…ever.

Asheville was once a wonderful family friendly city . Unfortunately the current city officials and DA have destroyed the city by refusing to support law enforcement. Violent Crime is among the highest per capita in the nation. A massive homeless population most mentally ill roam downtown. Homeless encampments are a common sight. Human waste, needles and trash are the norm in some city parks and parking garages. Over development has ruined much of the charm Asheville once had… overall there are much better options for families in other communities.

I Like how there is a broad range of prices for rent. I need low rent and there are quite a few places I can find my budget at.

I have fallen in love with Asheville. I enjoy walking the streets admiring the unique and I threshing art mixed in with historical buildings. The people of Asheville are a joy to engage with and a pleasure to get to know. I grew up near the Blueridge Parkway and used to travel to Asheville from time to time, but since I have started my enrollment at UNCA I've spent a lot more time in Asheville. Now, I can't think of any other place I enjoy as much.

It is a beautiful place and a great area to live if you love the outdoors. Although Asheville is filled with sites and outdoor activities, it seems like Asheville is the place for tourists visiting for the first time.

Coming from someone who's been living in Asheville their entire life, this city is not really worth going to if you want to do more than sight-seeing. The mountains and wildlife are extremely beautiful; however, that's its only selling point. There isn't much familial activities in Asheville and thanks to tourism, practically everything is expensive, especially housing; for instance, a one-bedroom apartment can cost over $1000 a month. The housing costs has gotten bad to the point where Asheville residents can barely afford their homes even though they work full-time jobs and have been living in Asheville their entire lives. Some of the other problems Asheville faces is homelessness, panhandling, drugs, and much more. Overall, the city is not a safe place to visit or live in.

I have lived in Asheville for over 5 years. It has been a blast. The city is continuing to grow and change. It is very live an vibrant, people are always coming a going. The weather is mostly mild and the scenery is gorgeous. Art and food are staples in the downtown area and can be found spattered in the suburbs and surrounding mountain country.

Great mountain town with lots of outdoor activities for families and people without families. It feels like a big town, not a small city.

Asheville is overpriced and expensive. The housing costs are high and higher, that's the only choices. Crime and drugs are huge issues. The city wants a small town feel and will not bring in companies that would offer livable wages. Locals or long time residents are moving away due to the cost of living and rising crime rates. There is no real consequences for criminals. The city tries to hide the truth so visitors will keep coming. I've lived here for over twenty years. I thought this was my forever home, now I can't wait to get out. The view is not worth all the downsides.

I loved Asheville when I visited. Nestled in the beautiful Appalachian mountains, it’s location is perfect for outdoor actives, but also has plenty of city-like activities. Locals are very friendly and you’ll never run out of breweries to explore. Definitely going to return soon

This is such a cool city. It’s very vibrant and has excellent nightlife. There’s plenty of restaurants and bars and also many outdoor activities accessible. Great Smokey Mountains are an hour away. Overall, I loved my experience in Asheville and can’t wait to return soon.

I live in a small town near Asheville. Asheville used to be a beautiful city but now it is riddled with homelessness, alcoholics, drug addicts & child abusers. The adjoinging small towns are the same. This place is lovely but there are some seedy characters living around here. The law enforcement in the smaller towns are corrupt & cover for drug addicts. I have been vandalized, property stolen & stalked in Hendersonville l& Brevard. The police do nothing. The court let a child I know go with an abuser in Asheville. He has a history of violence and is allowed to have a kid because he lied. DSS is corrupt. Kids wander the back streets and are not safe. Don't invest in Asheville it is not a safe area! Adjoining smaller towns are worse. Black Mtn might be the safest town.

Asheville is a violent place unless you live in an expensive area. Homeless people are on a lot of the street corners and medians. Just two days ago a woman was in the park with her dog. They were playing ball and a man walked up to the dog and slit its throat in front of her. Look at Asheville Police Department fb page. You will get a more honest picture. There is also gun violence here. Someone has been shooting in residential homes between 12am and early mornings. This past Juneteenth a person pulled out a gun in the midst of a downtown celebration and shot two people. There are so many homeless drug addicts here that it isn’t unusual to see them talking out their minds. One pulled a knife on me while I was in traffic. He was screaming “f**k you” and talking about his dead mother. It’s insane. Research before you come.

Asheville has beautiful scenery and a really interesting mix of people. I wish there was more affordable places to live, though.

The food is amazing! I love the art and creative culture of the city. My favorite place to eat is a restaurant called Salsa’s in downtown Asheville. I have been to the Grove Park Inn hotel a few times and it’s breathtaking each time. The mountains and the spectacular views leave me in awe, especially in the fall season.

Stay Away . This place is a huge dumpster. Rivers and streams are so heavily polluted with trash . If you think I am exaggerating go to woods ave and US 74-A next to the U-Haul location. Homeless people everywhere . Drug use and needles are everywhere. Crime is on the rise , because they want to defund the police. Just like people blaming gun violence on guns. How about blaming the parents who don't discipline their children. That's why you get all this crime is Ashville. I use to love visiting this place , not anymore. City officials have tied law enforcements hands with all these new policies. I use to be a Democrat but after I seen how this place was run, I changed. Thanks for ruining what used to be a wonderful place to visit. Remember the Once LER from The Lorax. This place is beginning to be that story.

I am currently a college student at the University of North Carolina in Asheville and have completed my first year. So far, the campus and city as a whole have been very nice to stay in while getting my degree. There are a lot of places near campus that I have easy access to; Harris Teeter, CVS, Wendys, Physio, the Hop, and more.

I love the area, there ae lots of things to do outdoors and it is incredibly accepting of lgbt+ people. It is so hard to find affordable housing though, and well-paying jobs.
