Has anyone got promoted from L6 to L7 @amazon ? During offer stage recruiters keep mentioning that you won't be in same band , base , RSUs over 4 year period , you may get promoted over next few year etc etc. good to get some real data from Blind community.

A lot of good stuff mentioned here, but L7 scope is so much wider than L6. You have to be performing at an L7 bar, meaning you are influencing org wide. You can’t just be killing it with your customers or teammates. You’ve gotta bring a real impact to Amazon, and get the recognition from L8+. I know a few who have done it, and it’s definitely a 3 year process if you’re lucky.
It’s also worth it, because being a Principle at Amazon makes you god tier on the open market.
Yes, there really aren’t that many. In some roles you can’t even say you’re an L7 on Blind because it would be so easy to identify. Also, Amazon rarely if ever hires outside L7s.
In my role for example, there are 30 L7s out of 3000. You could legit be a VP at a company outside of Amazon at that level. My org leader (before his promo to L8) was leading 250 people at L7. Of course you can be an L7 IC as well, as most are.

Promotion in Amazon is dependent on several variables. While you can control your performance, engagement and impact you make; there are several factors outside your control that affects promotion. For example: manager changes (promotion is manager driven process), high visible projects (your team/org should have enough high visibility projects with funding); stakeholders involvement (common challenge for moving to l7 is not enough exposure to l8 & l10 levels). Everyone should believe in growing but I wouldn’t use it as a data point in your decision making.
Amazon doesn't do promo on role change.
For tech 6 to 7 is near impossible for SDEs.
On the business side expect at least 3 years for promotion.
