Allstate is a particularly good company if you plan to bundle your home and auto insurance. Its low home rates offset its high auto costs, and you get a generous discount for combining your home and auto policies.
Allstate is the nation’s fourth-largest car insurance company, and it ranks second for home insurance.
- Allstate has an excellent complaint rating for home insurance from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). This looks at confirmed complaints (complaints that lead to a finding of fault).

How much is Allstate car insurance?
Allstate charges an average of $2,609 a year for full-coverage car insurance. That’s 32% higher than the national average ($1,972 a year).
Allstate’s minimum-liability rates average $1,158 a year, which is 50% higher than the national average ($773 a year).
But since car insurance rates vary by customer, be sure to shop around. And note that policies are usually more expensive for some drivers, such as teens, or those with DUIs or poor credit.

Allstate’s variety of discounts can add up to sizable savings, including average savings of 25% for bundling your home and car insurance.
It also has a DriveWise program. It uses a smartphone app to monitor your driving for unsafe speeding or hard braking — avoiding these behaviors can get you a discount when you renew.
Allstate’s pay-per-mile Milewise program can save you money if you only drive a few thousand miles or less each year. Unfortunately, Milewise is only available in 17 states.
Allstate also offers discounts for:

- Going paperless with Allstate’s eSmart plan

Allstate auto insurance coverage
Besides normal auto insurance coverages, like liability and collision, Allstate has other handy options, such as:
- Deductible rewards: Reduces your deductible at no extra cost when you avoid accidents
- New car replacement: Replaces a new car after a total loss, with no deduction for depreciation
- Roadside assistance: This optional add-on costs $25 a year per vehicle
Allstate also has add-on coverage for rideshare drivers, called Ride for Hire. It bridges the gap between your personal auto coverage and the insurance your rideshare company provides.
Unfortunately, Allstate does not offer gap insurance or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) coverage.

Allstate’s car insurance rates are based on an analysis of quotes for typical drivers in 46 states and the District of Columbia. Home insurance rates are based on quotes for typical homes in 47 states and the District of Columbia.
Liability-only car insurance policies meet each state’s minimum car insurance laws. Full-coverage policies include:
- Bodily injury liability: $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
- Property damage liability: $25,000
- Uninsured motorist bodily injury: $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
- Collision: $500 deductible
- Comprehensive: $500 deductible
- Personal injury protection: Minimum limits, where required
Home insurance policies include:
- Dwelling limit: $400,000
- Other structures: $40,000
- Personal property: $200,000
- Loss of use: $80,000
- Personal liability: $100,000
- Medical payments: $5,000
