Adastra (2024)

Adastra is a moon of the planet Ancoris, orbiting the star Vita. It is the main setting of Adastra and its sequel, Adastra: Interea.

Description[]

Adastra is a moon located in a distant star system in the Milky Way, about 50,000 light-years from Earth. It is the homeworld of the Wolves, orbiting Ancoris alongside the smaller moon Torque.

History[]

Formation[]

From what little is known about Adastran prehistory, it can be assumed that the moon, along with Ancoris and the rest of the star system, formed billions of years ago, in a similar fashion to our own Solar System. The atmospheric and biological compositions of Adastra are incredibly similar to Earth, to the point where species from both worlds can thrive on the other.

Emergence of life[]

Early in the game, Amicus states that "all life has the same origin, and develops in a roughly similar way". Life on Adastra likely began the same way it did on Earth, starting with simple single-celled organisms, and gradually evolving into a diverse range of flora and fauna, with incredible similarities to Earthen lifeforms. However, the evolutionary paths of Adastra and Earth diverged at some point. Adastran insects are also alarmingly larger than their Earthen counterparts, potentially due to a slightly higher amount of oxygen in the atmosphere, similar to Earth during the Carboniferous Period.

The Evolution of Wolves[]

In the distant past, the Parent Romanus, wishing to spread their influence into the Milky Way, came upon the moon of Adastra. After scoping out the native ecosystem, they selected a species: wolves. Throughout potentially millions of years, the evolution of Adastran wolves was guided by Romanus. The wolves evolved to become bipedal, develop consciousness, and eventually form a civilization, as humans would on Earth.

Geography[]

TBA

Culture[]

Adastra is the birthplace of the Wolves and thus is the center of Wolven culture.

Architecture[]

Much of Adastran culture can be likened to that of Ancient Romans, though much more technologically advanced. The majority of buildings, furniture, and decorations follow the Roman Classical style, with tech being discreetly placed into the furnishings.

There are several major cities on the moon, including Adastra City, the capital of the Wolven empire, along with Lupas, Ad Rotae, Lux, Lex, Gebii, and Tricelli. Excluding Adastra City, all of the cities are run by triumvirates, groups of three elected by the citizens of their respective cities.

Social attitudes[]

Wolves are notoriously prideful, and it has earned them much disdain from other Sibling cultures. Because of this, Adastra has mostly thrived under a policy of isolationism. The Wolves previously engaged in a war with the Jackals as a result of the latter interfering with Adastra's children species.

In daily life, many social norms and attitudes reflect those found in early Roman societies. Adastra follows a patriarchal society, where male Wolves have more freedoms and opportunities than females. As such, Adastra has never had a female emperor. Wolven culture also looks down upon hom*osexuality. While male friends may hold paws or even platonically kiss, actual gay relationships are chastised and mocked, though it is unknown if there is a punishment for engaging in them.

However, by the end of the novel, Adastran society has begun to shift towards a more progressive attitude, with Virginia assuming the position of advisor and Amicus, the first openly gay emperor, taking the throne.

Government[]

Adastra is home to the Royal Family of Wolves, who live in a palace near the capital city.

The Royal Family consists of Amicus, his younger brother Cassius, and his older sister, Virginia. The matriarch of the family died of illness when they were still children. Their father, Emperor Potes, was killed in a ship crash before the events of the story.
