Job Summary

EnviroCentre is an Ottawa-based environmental not-for-profit that supports residents, enterprises, and communities to find practical ways to reduce their environmental impact. Our four key impact areas are Green Homes, Green Transportation, Green Enterprises and Green Future. We have been working for twenty-five years to promote practical climate action and awareness in our local communities, and we are one of the leading local agencies in environmental action.

The position of Controller is a newly created role within EnviroCentre and represents an opportunity for an entrepreneurially minded team player to join a growing team that is focused on building a better future for our city and our region.

Working together with the virtual CFO, contracted bookkeeper and a robust Operations team that manages complex reporting tasks associated with our programs, this role will play a critical role managing preparation of financial reporting, cash flow, forecasting and budgeting and product costing.

Job Duties

  • Collaborate with the management team and virtual CFO to advance strategic priorities with robust financial support and ensure financial health of the organization.
  • Complete accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis to support management team decision-making through reliable and relevant financial insights.
  • Manage product costing insights and inventory accounting.
  • Lead quarterly forecasting and annual budget processes, together with senior management and virtual CFO .
  • Support full range of financial, accounting and procurement functions to ensure compliance with policies; recommend changes to policies when appropriate to meet current and future organizational needs.
  • Monitor financials including monthly balance sheet review, variance analysis and account reconciliations.
  • Cashflow management and forecasting.
  • Maintain effective relationships with broad range of external stakeholders including financial institutions, funders, and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal legal requirements including HST, EHT, payroll remittances and other reporting requirements.
  • Lead annual external audit process.
  • Support risk management across the organization including annual insurance risk mitigation.
  • Support the finance and audit committee with financial reporting and analysis.

Skills and Experience:

  • CPA designation preferred, University or college degree or equivalent professional experience required.
  • 5+ years in a comparable role in a growing and fast paced work environment
  • Product costing and inventory accounting experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an orientation towards collaboration and internal customer service.
  • Technically savvy with advanced Excel skills and high-level proficiency in QBO and cloud computing and ability to quickly adapt to new and complex software tools.
  • Keen analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Bilingualism (French-English) an asset.
