AirPods Pro and AirPods (3rd generation) are sweat and water resistant, but they are not waterproof or sweatproof. They aren't designed for use in water sports like swimming, or for showering.

AirPods Pro (1st generation) are sweat and water resistant for non-water sports and exercise, and have a rating of IPX4 under IEC standard 60529. The MagSafe Charging Case and Wireless Charging Case for AirPods Pro (1st generation) are not water resistant or sweat resistant.

If your AirPod(s) have fallen into water, you should dry your Airpods immediately, as you already did. If there is still water in your AirPods and then you charge them, they can be damaged and become very hot. To be sure, it's best to visit an Apple store.

Make sure to also use a microfibre cloth to thoroughly dry them before placing the AirPods back in their case as with the varying levels of resistance, it's important to keep the case itself safe from contact with water – especially sweat as that will damage the Pods permanently if it gets inside.
