900 Credit Score: Is It Possible to Get? (2024)

The most popular credit scores all use a range of 300 to 850. So a credit score of 900 isn’t possible with those models, which include VantageScore 3.0 and 4.0 as well as FICO 8 and 9. But some older models, as well as some alternative scores, do go up to 900 (or even beyond). It’s good to be familiar with these ratings, but you probably won’t encounter them often.

So you should worry far more about where you stand on the standard credit score range. And you can see exactly where that is by checking your latest credit score for free on WalletHub.

Below, you can learn more about credit scores with unusually high ranges as well as which number you should really target on the standard credit score range.

Credit Scores That Go to 900+

A handful of credit scores range to 900 or above. And they all have different starting points. Some of these scores, such as the FICO Auto Score, are used only for specific situations. Others, such as VantageScore 1.0 and 2.0, are no longer in use. You can check them out below.

A credit score of 900 is possible with these types of scores:

The newest versions of FICO’s credit scores that go up to 900 are FICO Auto Score 9 and FICO Bankcard Score 9.

As for VantageScore, versions 1.0 and 2.0 – and their 501-990 range – have been retired. The newest models – VantageScore 3.0 and 4.0 – use the standard 300-850 range. WalletHub offers free daily updates to your VantageScore 3.0 credit score.

FICO and VantageScore are, by far, the biggest credit-scoring companies in the U.S.

Shoot for a Credit Score of 800, Not 900

A credit score of 900 is either not possible or not very relevant. The number you should really focus on is 800. On the standard 300-850 range used by FICO and VantageScore, a credit score of 800+ is considered “perfect.” That’s because higher scores won’t really save you any money.
