6 Ways to bring joy to God’s heart

Let’s look at 6 ways to bring joy to God’s heart.

“Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart;” Proverbs‬ ‭27:11‬ ‭

6 Ways to bring joy to God's heart (1)

Can you just imagine the beauty, joy and peace it would be for each of us to actually bring joy to God’s heart?

But what is joy? We all know happiness. A fleeting emotion that is short-lived. Joy, on the other hand, is a deep setting emotion that is long-lasting.

You are probably asking what I asked next… how can I bring joy to God’s heart?

As with all areas in our life, the Bible provides clear direction on how we can do this:

6 ways to bring joy to God’s heart

Believe in God

“By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews‬ ‭11:5-6‬

We need to first believe. To have faith and trust God in all areas of our lives.

Obey God
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” John‬ ‭15:9-11‬ ‭

We need to study God’s word and obey His commands.

Growing in God

“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,” Colossians‬ ‭1:9-10‬ ‭

God loves when we live our lives trying to grow closer to Him. We do this not only by our worship, prayer, fasting and study of His word but also by following His commands.

Salvation

“I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.” Luke‬ ‭15:7‬

When we repent and accept God as our Lord and Savior, it truly pleases God.

Jesus like

“After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy‭‭.”” Matthew‬ ‭3:16-17‬

Living as Jesus did. You may know the phrase WWJD (What Would Jesus Do). It may not be an easy pill to swallow but bringing joy to God will take everything we got and more.

The reality

“The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.” Zephaniah‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭

The reality is that HE loves us as we are, and we bring joy to Him. But we should live our lives in a way where we show obedience and trust; we honour and worship His name.

Food for thought: Are you bringing joy to God’s heart? What could you do differently to bring joy to God? How will you share the gospel with a friend who needs to hear an encouraging word?
