4. Reload your Prepaid Sim Card every 3 months
Another suggestion to keep your SIM card active is to purchase a prepaid load for it every 3 months. What you can do is buy the lowest denomination available that your local Telco is offering. For example, in the Philippines, Smart Prepaid subscribers can buy a regular load for as low as 10 pesos.
When you are abroad, you can use your online Banking App to buy a prepaid load by yourself. Or you can request your relatives in the Philippines to buy a prepaid load for you.
5. Check your Sim Card’s Prepaid Load Balance each month
This may be the funny part because you will have to do this every month. You know that the load credits will not change compared to the previous month, but you still have to check it.
The purpose of this option is for your Sim Card to have some activity. As I’ve mentioned earlier, your Sim will be deactivated when it has no activity for a certain number of days. So, checking your prepaid load credits each month will do the trick.
Why keep your Sim Card active while you are Overseas
We cannot deny the fact that prepaid Sim Cards are affordable. If your Sim Card expires, you can simply dispose of it. However, your Sim Card number is one of the ways for your friends and relatives to contact you when you work overseas. It is also a way for you to reach out to your friends when you come back to your home country. When your Sim Card has expired, then you have to buy a new one. Afterward, you have to inform all your friends that you change your number.
When your Sim Card was deactivated, you won’t be able to reactivate it again. As a result, you won’t be able to access the Mobile Apps that are dependent on your mobile phone numbers such as your GCash, PayMaya, and Online Banking Apps that sends an OTP.

For Globe Prepaid Sim Card, it will take about 2 months or 60 days of no activity before it will expire.
TM or Touch Mobile Sim Card will expire after 365 days (1 year) of no activity.
Talk N Text (TNT) Sim Card will take 180 days or 6 months of no activity before it expires.
Smart Prepaid Sim will expire after 180 days or 6 months of no activity.
Sun Cellular Sim card takes about 120 days or 4 months of no activity for it to expire.
