First, Let’s Get Something Straight

I wanted to start out by setting a few things straight. These encouraging bible verses are not a get rich quick scheme. Nor do they espouse some kind of name it and claim it belief that if you just believe hard enough you’ll be rich.

That’s not what God’s financial plan is all about.

You Have to Do Your Part

Godly wealth is not about asking God to rain down riches upon you. He’s not a fairy that grants you three wishes. However, when you work in partnership with God and live by godly, biblical financial principles, He has no choice but to bless you!

What You Need to Know First About God and Money

When it comes down to it, there are a few things you need to know about God and finances before you read these encouraging scriptures about money.

God Has a Financial Plan

Yep, God has a financial plan for you. Scripture after scripture shows us that when we are good stewards of the money and resources He provides, we and those around us will prosper greatly. When you stick to His plan, you’ll reap tremendous rewards in your life, and better yet, you’ll be a huge blessing to others too!

God Doesn’t Want You to Be Poor

You’ve probably heard a lot of incorrect teaching about how Christians should be poor. Being poor is supposed to make us more humble and closer to God. Poverty will keep us from falling prey to choosing the love of money over the love of God.

This couldn’t be further from the truth!

Even poor people are tempted by the love of money. Large amounts of money (or severe lack of it) only magnify what is already in your spirit.

God Wants You to be Wealthy and Prosperous

When you learn what God’s word actually says about money and wealth, you realize there really is a path to godly wealth, and that God wants you to experience true wealth and financial independence for yourself!

So Why Does God Want You to Be Rich?

So this is the point where a lot of people get stuck. Too many believe that Christians are supposed to just scrape by. Too many believe that if we just have our needs met that’s all we should expect in life.

But as you’ll see in the encouraging bible verses below, just scraping by ain’t gonna get it! It’s definitely not what God wants for us.

What Godly Wealth Accomplishes in Your Life

But first, let’s discover a few things that godly wealth accomplishes:

4 Awesomely Encouraging Bible Verses for Your Finances (2)
  • More money to fund the church. The church can’t be nearly as effective without the money it takes to make things happen.
  • Wealth wins people over. Our mission is to win people to the faith. Why would anyone want to be a Christian if they thought they would have to live in poverty the rest of their lives?
  • It can make your life more enjoyable. God wants you to have an abundant life here on earth. His word says explicitly that you should enjoy your wealth, just don’t let it separate you from God.
  • Wealth allows you to make the world a better place. Wealth used properly heals people from disease, feeds hungry people, provides shelter, provides education, edifies people, and leaves a generational financial legacy that can never be achieved through poverty.

When you strive to become indpendently wealthy, the more you’re able to be a blessing to others.

Can you be a blessing if you have no money?

Sure you can.

But wealth allows you to bigger blessing because you have an overflowing cup of financial abundance. It exponentially magnifies your effectiveness as one who blesses other people.

Encouraging Bible Verses for Your Finances

So with all that said, here are some awesomely encouraging bible verses for your finances to set you on a path to godly wealth like you’ve never experienced before!

Don’t forget to check out the list of books at the end of this post that will encourage you even further.

God Gives Us the Power to Get Wealth

Deuteronomy 8:18 “But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today”

No matter what your situation is right now, you have the power and ability to produce wealth.

We are made in the image of God.

And one of the primary characteristics of God is that He is a creator. He made us to be creators too!

He has innately put into us the ability to create wealth and grow it exponentially just as He does.

Throughout Ecclesiastes chapter 8 it talks about the wealth and privileges God gave to the Jewish people when they practiced obedience to His principles.

Just like them, these encouraging bible verses shows that we just have to follow His direction to be creators of wealth in our own lives!

The Blessing of the Lord Brings Wealth

Proverbs 10:22 “The blessing of the LORD establishes wealth, and difficulty does not accompany it” ISV.

When you’re blessed by God because you’re living according to His ways, wealth will be part of the blessing that’s established in your life.

Not only that, there is no difficulty that comes with that wealth!

Some translations interpret that last part as meaning there is no painful toil that comes with gaining that wealth. There are several types of investments and income that could be referring to, such as:

  • Investment income- Stocks, bonds, real estate, etc.
  • Passive income- royalties from created works, interest from loans, dividends, private equity, peer to peer loans, etc.

Others interpret it as meaning there is no stress or worry that comes with it. It’s a type of wealth that doesn’t weigh you down spiritually or mentally.

I really like Matthew Henry’s commentary that describes it as a type of wealth that “…comes from the love of God, (and) has the grace of God for its companion.”

That’s pretty sweet! A wealth that you don’t have to work hard for and don’t have to worry about is the kind of wealth I’ll definitely take more of any time I can get it!

Tithing Opens Up the Windows of Heaven for You

Malachi 3:10-12“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field, Says the LORD of hosts. And all nations will call you blessed For you will be a delightful land, Says the LORD of hosts.”

Tithing is one of the most important things you can do to succeed financially.

The Purpose of the Tithe

The purpose of the tithe is to provide for the church. So many of us forget that if the church is going to be effective, it needs money!

But the tithe also serves a personal purpose for your life. Giving the tithe helps you understand some important things about money:

  • It helps you remember where all your resources come from (God).
  • Tithing helps you learn to be less selfish. It turns you into a sower instead of a hoarder.
  • It helps you learn to put more trust in God instead of your own abilities.

Tithing Accomplishes 3 Things

Tithing is the first thing you should do with your money once it comes to you. When you give the first part of your earnings to the church, God puts promises in place that set you up for financial success!

The great thing about these encouraging scriptures is that when God makes promises, they’re set in stone!

God makes 4 promises here that have to happen to you when you’re a cheerful tither:

  • He will open the windows of Heaven and bless you to the point that it’s too much for you to receive.
  • He will rebuke the devourer for you. This means your resources will not be depleted.
  • Your vines will not fail to bear fruit. Your work, your ideas, and your investments will bear good fruit and prosper.
  • You will be called blessed. People will recognize God’s blessing on you.

These encouraging scriptures are just the ticket to make sure God’s blessings are made available to you. Ignore these promises and you’ll not be able to receive the blessings God wants you to have through tithing.

Increased Seed and Enlarged Harvest

2 Corinthians 9:9-11 “As it is written: “He has scattered abroad His gifts to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.” 10Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your store of seed and will increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11You will be enriched in every way to be generous on every occasion…”

Tithing protects your seed, but giving offerings above the tithe brings about multiplication of your seed.

This verse of encouragement is all about multiplication.

Think about it- what is the nature of seed? Seed was made for multiplication! One single seed planted in good soil and faithfully tended to multiplies into hundreds, or even thousands of new seeds!

God Will Multiply Your Seed

What this means for you is that when you tend to your seed (your money) faithfully, God will provide an increase.

These verses focus specifically on giving as a means of multiplying your seed.

It may seem counterintuitive, but when you’re a cheerful giver, God will actually provide you with even more seed to sow! You actually end up with more than you started with so you can be generous on every occasion!

This is a promise I’ve seen play out in my own life on a daily basis. The more Angie and I give, the more we have. I know it sounds crazy but it works!

God Wants You to Have Righteous Wealth

When it comes down to it, God wants you to be blessed in every way, including your finances.

God’s biggest desire is to bless his people.

Wealth is just one of the ways that God blesses you when you live a righteous life. But it’s up to you to make yourself available to receive those blessings.

When He can trust you with money and resources, He knows you’ll use it wisely to provide for others and expand His kingdom.

But when you make money more important than Him in your life, you might get wealthy, but your wealth won’t be a blessing. Righteous wealth is what He wants you to have, and when you put Him first above everything else, that’s what you’ll get.
