Topps Fire 2022 base set & design

The 200 card base set features a design that might be best described as “loud”. With flashy stylized backgrounds featuring bright colors, they bring a bit of splashy fun.

The checklist contains a mix of major league veterans, rookies, and former players. Top rookies Wander Franco, Bobby Witt Jr, and Julio Rodriguez are all included. Seiya Suzuki and Steven Kwan also get some of their first pack-issued rookie cards in the set.

Retired stars include Derek Jeter, Willie Mays, Ken Griffey Jr., and David Ortiz.

Fired Up

The checklist here features 20 players who are pictured “fired up”, with either intense looks or excited celebrations. It’s a fun concept. Players showing emotion was traditionally frowned upon, but the game is slowly growing to embrace a little enthusiasm. Seeded 1:7 Collector packs.

Flame Throwers

A good starting pitcher is hard to find, and Flame Throwers inserts are a bit tougher of a pull at 1:14 packs. The 15-card offering includes Sure Thing Hall of Famers like Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, Pitchers on the Hall of Fame Path like Jacob DeGrom, Aroldis Chapman, and Gerrit Cole, and young up and comers like Hunter Greene.

Topps Fire 2022 autographs

Autographs are the main draw in any modern offering, and Topps Fire 2022 is no different. With a variety of autographed offerings, from the fairly mundane to the downright exciting, there’s a lot to unpack here.

One note: The vast majority, but not all, autographs in this set are sticker autographs, not on-card. Not out of the norm for lower-to-mid-level offerings, but obviously not as desirable as on-card autos. Read on for the exception to the sticker-auto trend.

Fire Autographs

This 74-card autographed offering is seeded 1:17 collector and 1:64 blaster packs. With a checklist that deep, there’s some depth to the checklist, so not every pull is a huge hit. There are big names like Harper, Soto, and Witt Jr., but also lots of rookies and young players who aren’t household names.

Parallel offerings include:

  • Orange #/99 or less (1:70 collector)
  • Green #/75 (1:126 collector, 1:604 blaster)
  • Purple #/50 (1:190 collector, 1:907 blaster)
  • Magenta #/25 (1:379 collector, 1:1,814 blaster)
  • Gold #/10 (1:952 collector, 1:4,547 blaster)
  • Blue #/5 (1:1,895 collector, 1:9,126 blaster)
  • Inferno – 1/1 (1:9,471 collector, 1:45,626 blaster)

Scorching Sigs

Scorching Sigs is the one on-card autograph offered in 2022 Topps Fire. This 17 card set is a tough pull at 1:262 collector or 1:1,255 blaster packs. These shiny cards feature a checklist of big names that should make anyone who hits one a happy collector.

Parallel offerings include:

  • Magenta #/25 (1:1,151 collector, 1:5,531 blaster)
  • Gold #/10 (1:2,883 collector, 1:14,004 blaster)
  • Blue #/5 (1:5,950 collector, 1:28,077 blaster)
  • Inferno – 1/1 (1:27,622 collector, 1:175,046 blaster)

2022 Topps Fire And Why It's Such A Fun Rip - CardLines (12)

Dual Autographs

Featuring signatures from two players who have a connection of some kind (same team, position, country, etc.) this 10-card set is a tough pull at 1:1,858 collector or 1:14,004 blaster packs.

There are some really fun pairings here, like two-sport stars Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders, Nolan Ryan and Jacob deGrom, and Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.

2022 Topps Fire And Why It's Such A Fun Rip - CardLines (13)

Triple Autographs

Taking the double autograph concept and raising it by one, Triple Autographs are an awesome pull. They’re also a very tough pull, with the 10-card set coming seeded a daunting 1:23,800 collector or 1:121,667 blaster packs.

Some of the groupings here are, for lack of a better word, pure “Fire”. Mike Trout / Bryce Harper / Juan Soto? A dream. Nolan Ryan / Mike Trout / Shohei Ohtani? Insane. Several of the other groupings include some “same team” pairings that will make fans of those teams swoon.

The final word on 2022 Topps Fire

While 2022 Topps Fire isn’t a high-end product, it offers a lot of flash, a little fun, and some interesting pulls for a very reasonable price for an ultra-modern offering. If you’re looking for a fun break, this is a good candidate to get “Fired Up” about.
