To sign up as a website tester for UserTesting, visit the company’s “Sign up to be a user tester” page and enter your information. Then you’ll wait for the email confirmation, fill out a page of demographic information and complete a sample test. The demographic information is used to match companies with testers in their target audience.

When a company is ready for feedback, you’ll find out one of two ways. Either you can wait for an email notification or you can log in to the site frequently to see what opportunities are available. The requirements will vary, and you will only want to select the ones where you meet all of the qualifications.

How Do I Actually Test the Website?

Once you’ve found a test that you’re a good match for, you will use the UserTesting on-screen recorder and a microphone to record your thoughts as you explore the website. Your face will NOT be recorded, and the company you are reviewing will not know your name. UserTesting will give you questions as prompts, so just explore the site and answer the questions to the best of your ability. The questions aren’t difficult. You’re just giving your feedback on the site in general. You’ll have a couple of written questions to fill out afterwards too. Then, once you’re done, UserTesting will send your feedback to the company and you’ll get paid via Paypal!

What Type of Skills Do I Need to Have to be a Website Tester?

Surprisingly, very few skills are needed, though any website or marketing knowledge you do have is always a plus. Whether you are a stay-at-home mom who knows very little about computers or a marketing mastermind, someone out there wants your feedback. After all, these companies aren’t necessarily selling to web gurus. They are selling to dog-lovers, moms, people who wear socks, or people who run races. How Much Can I Make?

UserTesting pays $10 per desktop test and $15 per mobile test, and the tests only take about 20 minutes each to complete. However, before you get too excited, you should realize that there are many, many more testers than jobs available, so this is ONLY a part-time gig. It’s a great way to make some fast and easy cash, but it isn’t going to pay your mortgage. Also note that Usertesting does not withhold taxes, so you’ll need to set those funds aside yourself.

Who Hires Website Testers?

2. StartUpLift – StartUpLift works specifically with startups to provide feedback on their websites based around required completion of certain tasks. You’re paid $5 for every feedback accepted, and they pay via PayPal each Monday.
3. WhatUsersDo – Testers with WhatUsersDo also review new websites (some by household names), and are paid $5 per test. They send you test invitations via email, and you can only take 3 to 5 tests per month. They also pay via PayPal, but only on the 25th of each month. Requires download of a screen recorder.
4. Enroll – Enroll lets you do a variety of tests from any device – computer, tablet, or phone. You may review a new logo, give feedback on website clarity, or complete some other task. They pay via PayPal but their payment details are not listed on their sign-up page.
5. Analysia – At Analysia, you can expect to complete specific tasks on a website while having your screen and audio recorded. They email you when a test is available that matches your profile. Testers are paid $10 per tests, which typically take around 15 minutes, and are paid via PayPal.
6. Userlytics – To test with Userlytics, you must have a computer with a microphone, running Windows 7 (or better) or MacOS 10.7.3 (or newer). You’ll also need a webcam. Their testers give feedback on websites, apps, prototypes, and more.
7. TryMyUI – As a tester with TryMyUI, you’ll use websites and apps and provide feedback on them – your screen will be recorded during the test and you’ll speak your thoughts out loud. They also have you do a written wrap-up survey. They pay $10 per accepted test and they say each test takes on average 20 minutes to complete. Payment is made by PayPal every Friday.
8. UserFeel – UserFeel is another usability company that will record your screen and your spoken thoughts. You can use a smartphone or a computer running Windows 7 or better. Macs work too. They pay $10 per test with tests taking around 10 to 20 minutes. Payment is by PayPal or Payoneer, and they pay out around 1 week after your test is accepted.
9. UsabilityHub – UsabilityHub offers very short tests that you’re paid about $0.10 for. They call your earnings “credits,” where 1 credit equals $0.10. Once you accrue 100 credits, you can cash out your $10. They pay via PayPal. It sounds like most users with UsabilityHub rarely have tests available to pick up.
10. Userinput.io – This company finds their website and idea feedback testers through Amazon’s mTurk; however, they are going to do another testing service for iPhone and Android app reviews that you can fill out a form for if you’re interested.
11. Testing Time – Testing Time provides tester feedback on digital products (websites and apps), and you must use Skype to test with them. They pay € 50 for each study, which is currently around $59. They match you to tests using your profile and you’ll get an invitation via email when they match you. You set up an appointment with their client to do a guided usability test, and they’ll pay you for the test within 10 days.
12. IntelliZoom – IntelliZoom is the user testing panel put together by UserZoom. You can do testing for them either from your mobile device or your computer. You just need to be able to download their testing software and have access to Wi-Fi. Most tests take 10 to 20 minutes. Tests that record your screen and spoken thoughts pay about $10 while standard surveys pay $5. You’ll be paid within 21 business days after your tests are approved.
13. UserZoom – UserZoom is very straightforward and like most usability testing sites – sign up, fill out a profile, be matched with tests and get emailed when tests are available.
