12 Ways To Transform Your Real Estate Marketing - A Haiku Deck by Catherine Carr (2024)

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

1.

12 WAYS TO TRANSFORM

YOUR REAL ESTATE MARKETING

This was originally presented as #2 in a series of three Trulia Pro webinars, Presentation Boot Camp for Power Agents.

The session was given by Catherine Carr, VP of Marketing of Haiku Deck (a free presentation app for iPad). Although it touches on (and demonstrates) Haiku Deck, the principles and ideas can be applied no matter what presentation tool you're using.

6.

BUILD RELATIONSHIPS

The first set of ideas we'll explore center on building relationships.

Items with an asterisk are ones we'll provide a "power template" for you to use and adapt.

7.

ABOUT ME

POWER TEMPLATE 1

8.

HI, I'M CATHERINE

9.

I HELP PEOPLE SET THEIR STORIES FREE

VP OF MARKETING, HAIKU DECK

Your role in a nutshell--your "why."

10.

(BEFORE STUMPTOWN....OR EVEN STARBUCKS)

I'VE LIVED IN S. CAPITOL HILL FOR 15 YEARS

How long you've lived or worked in the area, what you like about it.

11.

Untitled Slide

This doesn't have to be in a chart format, of course, but it's nice to give a sense of your professional background, and what the common threads are.

12.

THERE'S ALWAYS A STORY

I BELIEVE

Your unique approach to your work.

13.

THE BEST MARKETING IS ABOUT REAL STORIES

I BELIEVE

14.

AND I START EVERY DAY AT STUMPTOWN

MY REAL STORY = SOCCER MOM, IRONWIFE, RUNNER

Something about you that makes you real, and that helps people relate to you and "get" you.

15.

CATHERINE@HAIKUDECK.COM @MAMATWEETA

You'll see that I close every template with contact information. You can choose what to include.

(Oh, and feel free to contact me with any questions!)

HOW TO USE THIS

Ideas for how and where to use an "About Me" piece like this.

17.

MEET THE TEAM

POWER TEMPLATE 2

This examples introduces you to Team Haiku Deck, but you could adapt to your office, your colleagues, or--as Jovan suggested--your extended team of partners and collaborators. Think broadly about "team."

18.

MEET TEAM HAIKU DECK

FREMONT - SEATTLE, WA

You don't have to be as wacky as Team Haiku Deck at the GeekWire Bash, of course, but no need to be stuffy, either. Be creative!

19.

ADAM

FOUNDER/CEO - FEARLESS LEADER AND KARAOKE MASTER

As you can see, I like to include the official job as well as a fun personal detail--again, to build connections and make people feel real.

20.

CATHERINE

VP MARKETING - COMMUNITY NURTURER AND SPEED TYPIST

21.

MARC

VP ENGINEERING - WEB MAGICIAN AND DEDICATED UNCLE

It's great to include everybody, even those your clients might not interact with directly. This helps put names with faces (and also helps celebrate and elevate the behind-the-scenes people in your practice).

22.

CASEY

LEAD DEVELOPER - NUMBER CRUNCHER AND NATIVE MONTANAN

23.

OUR SHARED MISSION

TO FILL THE WORLD WITH BEAUTIFUL STORIES AND IDEAS

It's great to articulate your shared mission! It feels real after you've introduced everybody in an authentic, personal way.

24.

ASK HOW, SAY HELLO

TEAM@HAIKUDECK.COM @HAIKUDECK

Notice how I change the contact info depending on the context. If I'm introducing myself, I put my personal info. If I'm introducing my team, I make that the focus of communication.

(But again, we always love to hear from you! So ask how or say hi any time!)

4627 BROOKDALE AVENUE

KENNY TRUONG

We'll go deeper on listing presentations in the next session on March 20, but this is a great example of a Haiku Deck listing presentation showcasing a property in Oakland:

Side note: For a listing presentation like this, you'll likely use your own photos instead of the built-in Creative Commons image search. The optimal size for this is 1124x768, but in our newest release you can zoom and crop right in the app.

32.

LOVE WHERE YOU LIV

LIV REAL ESTATE

Here's a great example of a Haiku Deck that complements and illustrates a blog post:

SEWARD PARK

SOUTH SEATTLE'S GEM

Here's an example I made for one of my favorite neighborhoods in Seattle. You can of course adapt it to your own needs, but I wanted to cover a variety of high points of the neighborhood.

35.

AFFORDABLE HOMES WITH MID-CENTURY STYLE

Here, you can come up with a "nutshell" description that captures the character and flavor of the neighborhood.

36.

LAKESIDE LIVING

I found most of these photos using Haiku Decks built-in Creative Commons image serach, but of course you can also use your own.

37.

SAFE STREETS AND BUS CONNECTIONS

You can quickly highlight some of the advantages of the community.

38.

PCC NATURAL MARKET

It's great to depict where community members shop....

You can also add value for your audience by including links for more info right here in the Notes:

(Bonus tip: When you do this, be sure to let any businesses you include know so they can also share with their own audiences and expand your reach!)

44.

BLUE ANGELS, SEAFAIR

Seafair is an annual event that takes place along Lake Washington. One of the highlights is the Blue Angels airshow. So, if you lived in Seward Park, you'd have a front-row seat!

Again, you can offer links for more info:

Of course you'll always close with your contact info.

Choose an awesome photo that totally captures the lifestyle of the neighborhood on its best day: In this case, a spectacular view of Mount Rainier over the beautiful blue lake.

MARKET TRENDS REPORT

POWER TEMPLATE 4

48.

SEATTLE, WA

MARCH 2013

Again, I created a sample deck using the data easily available on TruliaPro:

Be sure to provide context with the location and the date.

49.

MARKET HEATING UP

You'll want to add interest with a memorable headline to capture the real story behind the numbers, and you can have fun with the imagery.

Werner Kunz

50.

Untitled Slide

I created this with the new charts and graphs feature in Haiku Deck.

You can choose the appropriate data points to tell the story, but generally, keep it simple so your information is easy to understand.

51.

Untitled Slide

This shows price ranges at a point in time vs. trends over time.

52.

Untitled Slide

This type of stat chart can be helpful for contrasting two data points, with a caption.

Other stats you might want to include might be average price per square foot, or your personal sales stats compared to the local average.

53.

CONCLUSION

Here you might want to recap the headline in a slightly different way. In this case, we might draw the conclusion that it's starting to be a seller's market again in Seattle.

54.

DATA SOURCE

Always be sure to note where your data is coming from. In this case, I pulled the figures from TruliaPro:

Again, close with your contact info. Note how I tweak what I show to fit the context.

5 KEY TRENDS FROM ICNY13

NIKESH PAREKH, ACTIVERAIN

Haiku Deck is a beautiful tool for capturing and circulating notes or insights from a big event--in this case, Inman Real Estate Connect.

We didn't get to review this during the session, but here's a link:

59.

FACEBOOK FRIEND LISTS

BILL RISSER

Sharing your expertise (whether it's about real estate specifically, social media, blogging, presenting, etc.) is a great way to build your online presence.

This great Haiku Deck by Bill Risser is a perfect example. He has also made excellent use of the Notes feature.

60.

THE LATTE VISION

BRAD INMAN

At Real Estate Connect, Brad Inman articulated his vision that buying real estate should be as uncomplicated as buying a latte:

http://www.inman.com/news/2013/02/15/the-latte-vision-explained

To our knowledge, nobody has created a Haiku Deck to express this idea, but it would be a powerful tool for telling the story! What cause would you like to build support for?

Here's one more simple, flexible template for sharing expertise.
